Look for a cute updo for the layered hair of your shoulder? A simple twist that ends in a sweet bun is enough to make you the most stunning on the night of prom. Also these golden side highlights are a great idea to make your look unique.
Tapered Medium Length Hairstyle
This sort of medium length hairstyle looks just as good on straight or curly hair and maybe applied to a funkier look with bangs and highlights. Plus you can leave a simple yet stylish cut like this on your natural color.
Great Updo
Medium Shaggy Layers
For shaggy fabrics, medium-length layered haircuts are easy to wear and oh so flattering.
These beautiful layers are shown right by a big blowout. It is a popular choice for layered haircuts of medium size.
Bob with Side Bangs

Side-swept bangs on an asymmetric wavy bob give you all the size and appeal you want in a medium angled haircut. It’s a pretty top-notch bob that blends in with round eyes.
French Braid
Boho hairstyles can be easily removed with a thick braid for medium-layered hair. What better way to play your enchanting new pastel pink hair than a loose thick braid? This will leave those around you to fall in love with this candy shade of cotton.
Chunky Hair Highlights
‘ French Twist
‘
Such a thick blunt textured lob makes every sharp feature you have without effort stand out. If you’re proud of your genius bone structure and attractive medium-length collar bones, streamlined designs such as this are just for you.
Face Framing Layers
In this hairstyle, a lot happens given its simple and easy cut. The long layers that effectively frame and balance her wide-jawed face just at the chin-level.
For Thin Hair
Mid Length Pixie
Don’t worry if you have thin hair problems because this super cool hairstyle is here to save your day! Such vivid smooth, dark-rooted fashion strands provide the size and depth you’re searching for. How are you going to describe this look? This long pixie is a highly versatile style that can be personalized. The short-medium-layered undercut hair helps the haircut to take a great shape and create a stunning contrast from the edges. It would be Cotton Candy Crop if I had to give it a name (that sounds yummy). The color is the finest thing about this look. You don’t often see the melting of a short light. I think it gives it an extra dimension, but it still makes it a very soft look given the tones I used. I built this look a lot of fun. The suggestions that someone feels about it? Clearly do it! This haircut can be great for various types of face shapes because it can be customized to the personal preference of the person. When it comes to styling, it’s also very low maintenance you can dry this look with a bit of airy mousse or use a volumizing sap to dry up some volume and give the hair some texture. All the compliments you will get with this look will be the most challenging thing. Inverted Bob
QA with Nikki Rose Balayage Specialist design designer @ Eden Day Spa and Collegeville Salon Pa How would you describe this look?
QA with Taylor Bennett Stylist Barber Stylist @ The St. George Desert Lounge Salon How would you describe this look? In an effortless ringlet style, this bouncy layered perm was wrapped. Her short to long layers and the shape of her course made the perfect curly canvas. Say hello to the easy fun of bouncing where curls and layers go hand in hand. It is important to know that you will not wake up with perfect ringlets or a smooth wave of perms making a comeback. Curly hair, whether the curl is natural or allowed, also requires styling and products. Layers take off the weight and make it possible for your curl to be bouncer and form ringlets. You’re going to need things! A lightweight curl cream can help to smooth the curl and reduce friction for a dry soft look. Mousse can be used all over the skin for a wet look. Use a small amount of shine mist or spray to the ends through the mid-section for a little extra shine. Scrunch the scrunch! When styling curly plates, the most important thing is to scrunch the hair as it dries. Water is weighing down your hair. It will cause your hair to dry flat if you let gravity do its thing. Continually scrunch as it dries to form the curl. Short curly hair is perfect for those who want to match the form of their round head. For those with an oval or oblong shaped head, curls will also give a round look. Ultimately, ask your stylist what kind of curl and layers for your form and lifestyle would produce the best result.
QA with Sarah Velasquez Hairstylist style Sarasota Fl Fresh Salon How would you describe this look? This is a messy bun or top knot without any effort. This hairstyle would be perfect for virtually anybody and can be elevated like a bun cuff with a trendy headband or added accessory. With a few strategically placed bobby pins or a half-up top knot style for shorter lengths, it can be done just long or short hair. And it only takes less than five minutes! It’s a great look if you don’t have time to wash your hair or if you’re in a hurry to get out the door. Those who find this style should invest in a dry shampoo and hairspray brand of value. I used the Shu Uemura texture spray and Kerastase’s Laque Couture hairspray for this look. Curling it before will add volume and texture to fine hair.

How would this look be described? This is a medium-length bob that for thick textured hair has mixed layers. To ladies who want flexibility and mobility with extremely thick skin, this is the look to them! She came in looking for something lighter than suits herself and she decided to embrace her natural color and make it look alive and blend. During several sessions, I integrated babylights to achieve this gray blend! I’m so in love with how it feels. The suggestions that someone feels about it? Dark Wavy Bob
How do you describe this look? It’s a cool and sassy look. It’s not too short or too long, I like that. The suggestions that someone feels about it? On any face shape, this is pretty good. Although I wouldn’t suggest it to someone with really thick hair or to someone with delicate baby hair. With any hair texture, it also looks good. For anyone who wants to change their look, it’s a perfect cut.
QA with Allan Hair Artist style at Pembroke Pines Fl Hydra Hair Salon How would you describe this look? This smart and sexy look style reflects a natural flow of lightness set on a bob haircut with long layers. The suggestions that someone feels about it? Don’t think about being brazen and blonde! Ding blonde is a fun way in any season to create a fresh new look. There’s a lot of blonde colors and tones. Simply adding blonde bits will make the shade lighter. The whole way your hair looks very good with blonde highlights or white going. Only note that lifting color is a method that can only be done with the right timing and hair care products.
Side Fringe

QA with Rachelle Yarnell Hairstylist / Salon Owner design maker @ The Cleveland Studio Salon Oh How would you describe this look? This is, as some would say, a big bob or Lob. The fact that this could still feel long is flexible, but it can also be easily managed. It’s perfect for medium to fine hair. To leave length around the front, I cut this into a triangular shape.
QA with fashion designer Belen De Jesus Hairstylist / Barber Certified @ Picasso’s Riverside Color Studio Ca How would you describe this look? These layers are very trendy and popular with the shoulder length. It can be worn by lifestyle of any kind. From businessmen to working mothers. The advice that someone thinks about it? A lobby can be personalized to any. It can be either subtle or dramatic. For styling, you don’t always need to use heat devices. Naturally it looks great straight or with natural kinky curls or natural waves. I love to use a textured spray to produce a messier look and a second-day feel! It can be blunt or whispy this haircut.
Rebecca Johns Gaines Hairstylist @ Epic Inc. Shoulder-Length V-Cut
QA. I would characterize this look as a mid-length layered cut with face framing in the Salon in Pensacola Fl. The paint is a balayage toned with honey-gold. The flexibility is my favorite thing about it. It can be worn straight or curly down easily and it can be put into a ponytail just as easily. The suggestions that someone feels about it? Be sure to ask your stylist for suggestions on which styling devices would be best if you are considering this look. My go-to tool is a good flat iron that makes it perfect to smooth any frizz and make great waves with a little practice. Classic Shag
Shags such as this one are very common medium hair layered hairstyles. The advantage is that for every age they look great. QA with Lauren Reyez Junior Educator at the Partnership ToniGuy in Fort Worth TxThe New Wave
is a fashionable look for layered hairstyles of medium duration. With these natural-looking dark roots to a blonde shadow, it looks even better. QA with Ramon Garcia Hairstylist design maker @ Ramirez Tran Salon at Beverly Hills Ca I call this the new wave. It’s a mix of Ramirez’s typical Tran Lived In look and a light crimp. My favorite thing about it is its versatility. You can dress up and down in this look!! What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? I love the Mythic Oil of Loreal on the ends and the Next Day Hair of Loreal on the roots of midshaft. What kind of customer would you recommend this look for? The best thing about this theme is it can be rocked by anyone! Any texture or lifestyle of head shape is going to wear this look well. Carefree Shag
QA with John Peter Owner Stylist Stylist @ Bs HairShop @ Jc Salons in Pembroke Pines Fl How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it? I love the versatility of this shag. Whether you want to dress it or when you wear it naturally, it fits well. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? At Bs HairShop our main priority is hair authenticity so 90 percent of our customers start by getting an Olaplex treatment to re-bond their hair and help create the overall look and feel of clean, shiny hair. We started with Redken Frizz Dismiss shampoo and conditioner on this customer plus a nickel-sized quantity of Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame 40 before the dry blow to help seal the cuticula against moisture and shield the hair from heat. This is one of our sales number three! Once the look was complete we sprayed for added texture and a mild grip (not a hairspray) with Redken Wind Blown texture spray. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? The reason this is one of my favorite looks is because it’s a cut that goes with almost every form of the head. All you need to do is make the face-framing layers longer or shorter depending on the shape of the head, you can tailor this cut to any client sitting in your chair.
Shag With Bangs
Do you not think layered haircuts for medium-length hair such as this one look even more chic with wispy bangs? This air-dried haircut on slightly wavy hair gives a great, lived-in look to the beach. Any shape of the face can remove this haircut! The stylist will only need to determine where the shortest face-framing layer depending on the face shape can be started and whether or not bangs are an option based on style and commitment to maintain!
Layered Bob
What’s your favorite thing about this look? This is a bob haircut with a medium length base. I love this style’s comfort with her. It’s fresh and classic, very young light. I always enjoy being backed up by heavy highlights in place of a more subtle color that is accomplished by leaving out a lot of her natural hair color in highlights. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? I am in love with things. I’ve worked with a lot of brands and try new things all the time. Since washing with professional shampoo and conditioner, I prefer a soft foam / mousse (here I used Aloxxi Volumizing Mousse). I applied it to her wet hair and concentrated on her root area before the blowout. I finished the look with a light styling cream (Aloxxi Styling Cream) and touching hairspray (Keritage 3 Way Spray) so I couldn’t get rid of the motion. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for?
Soft Ombre Red Layers
QA with fashion maker Harlie Perry Master Cosmetologist @ FifthMae Salons in Roswell Ga This look is a perfect medium-layered, sleek and textured haircut. My favorite thing about this cut is that it lays down quite easily! I do love how the red balayage accentuates which helps to bring everything together. This style of cut gives the hair movement and body of this particular client without being too short so I love it on her! What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? Smooth Infusion Style Prep Light Elements Smoothing Fluid and Air Control hairspray, all of which are Aveda products, are the care and styling tools I recommend for this look. The preparation style is put in the hair while it is damp and then dried with a blowout into the skin. It protects from moisture and smoothes the hair for up to 12 hours. Style as you want (we used a flat iron in this picture). The smoothing fluid is put into dry hair after the hair is styled to help lock the hairspray in shine and smoothness. This hairspray provides a flexible hold that is almost invisible, so you can’t even feel it in your hair. It’s amazing! What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? Your face should always be complimented by haircuts and textures! I love an oval-shaped, medium-layered hair cut on men. The face tends to be narrower than long with an oval shape so that medium layers (especially layers starting under the chin) will help accentuate the shape of the oval face and balance the length and width.

Feathered Layers
QA with fashion maker Asif Shah Stylist Manager @ Asif Yvette Hair in Birmingham, UK. This is a classic haircut of feathered layers on a medium base. The way the layers break is my favorite thing about it. Just take out the weight to give the hair a nice flow to the layers softly. Which items would you suggest that this be preserved and recreated? Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Mousse is approved for use on wet hair and dry fly. And finish with Working Hairspray Alterna Caviar. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? Many face shapes and behaviors should suit this haircut. It’s a great look for someone with thick hair because in all the right areas the weight is stripped out. Even if somebody has finer hair, the layers are concentrated around the face that leaves a lot of heaviness behind. This look can be easily adapted to the. Feminine Layers
QA with Sue Spires Stylist Creator and Sharyn Hadler Salon Owner Stylist @ Avenue 33 Hair in Brisbane Australia How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite? What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? For this look we used the beautiful items from the Davines line especially their shampoo and conditioner from Alchemic Gold. We like the shampoo and conditioner from Minu as well. Such products are great for colored hair requiring illumination and increased vibration. Our stylist also used the lightweight non-oil from Davines to blow dry and finished for additional body with Davines ‘ texture spray. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? All facial shapes are in line with this hairstyle as it highlights the cheeks of the eyes and frames the face. This gives fine hair to the body and raise and frames the face with a flattering softness and a very feminine finish.
QA with Nicole Kruse Corrective Color Specialist @ Kenneth Brown Laguna Niguel Ca How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it? I’d characterize this style as a layered cut of mid-length. Which means something on or above the collarbone to me. My favorite thing about this look is that it’s perfect for consumers who don’t want to be short because they may not feel as feminine but it’s not as long as it takes a lot of styling every day. A playful and effortless look is given by the loose waves.Textured Flip-Up Shag
QA with Gina Chioccariello Hairstylist style maker @ Umberto Salon in Beverly Hills Ca How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite about it? What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? If you’ve got straight or wavy hair, I’d say spray salt or beach spray into wet hair … then flip upside down and dry hair for a bit (so hair flips up and down) flip up and dry hair with your hands. I would use a straightening balm / cream if you have curly hair and put it all over wet hair and let it dry so hair looks perfectly done. If you have them, you can blow dry bangs or just clean with a brush on the top sides. Use a texture spray like Oribe DryTexturizing Spray for a finished look after drying hair to add volume and texture! What kind of customer would you recommend this look for? This cut is perfect for all! These medium-length layers can flatter any face shape and is the best cut for the girl who wants the sexy, effortlessly lived look.
QA with Maria Rios Hairstylist style creator @ Salon Seven in Eureka Springs Ar How would you describe this look and your favorite thing about it? This is a layered medium bob style with lots of textured layers that are accentuated by a sunken balayage effect of caramel. My favorite thing about this look is to have all the textures without losing hair length and fullness. To create some volume on top, I used Moroccanoil Hydrating cream on damp hair and Pureology Color Stylist Root Lift. With a round brush I blow dried and used Moroccanoil hairspray for surface texture. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? For every face type or hair texture, bobs are universally flattering but this particular medium-long layered hair bob would be better on a form of a diamond or oval face with medium to coarse hair. Remember that it takes at least 15 minutes to style this look.
Razor Cut Lob

QA with style designer Priscilla Ochoa Senior Education Stylist Manager @ 42 Pasadena Fair Ca How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it? It’s a rasped, twisted Lob. The natural wave of the hair is beautifully textured with inner layers. I love this look because with styling you can have fun! 2. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated?
Veronica Burke Hairstylist style QA Creative Touch in Arvada Co How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it? This look is a slightly stacked layered bob cut of medium length with a dark base and highlights of golden balayage. To fit her face shape, I also added a fringe. My favorite thing is that it looks very flexible and traditional and polished. What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? I prefer the shine of a root lift and pomade that can be used to make it textured or wavy smooth. The highlights of the balayage help create dimension and value. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? This look is recommended for thin to medium hair thickness. This particular bob is best for long and oval round square heads. You can adjust the length to suit the shape of your face. This look is ideal for the customer who wants styling simplicity but also a head-turning feel. Beachy Layers
QA with Megan Colburn Stylist design maker @ Amarte Salon Spa in Redding Ca How would you characterize this look and what’s your favorite thing about it? What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? I’m always using items from Aveda. For this look, the best products are Volumizing Tonic for your mids and ends at the roots Thickening Tonic and a lightweight smoothing product like the Smooth Infusion styling cream from Aveda. To add weightless texture and hold, I like to finish with a lightweight hairspray like Aveda’s Air Control. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? This layered medium hair cut is beautiful because it works on all hair types! It also looks amazing as it is incredibly customizable on almost any face shape. This look is great for everyone if your stylist knows what they’re doing! It’s fast to style with your curling iron because it’s still fairly short. Just make sure that you’re using the protective heat! The on – the-go woman who still wants a stylish cut is the perfect look. Easy Soft Straight Hair
If you’re looking for a beautiful soft brown hair color then it’s worth trying layered haircuts for medium hair. Claudia Doran Hairstylist at the Aveda Beauty and Wellness Center in Milwaukee Wi.Perfect Thin Hair Layers
QA with Wendy Vario Hairstylist style designer @ Studio Booth in Pittsburgh Pa How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it? I think the color is not far from the natural hue of anybody. Just a little auburn splash can be a great introduction to someone trying to move further into the black family or to someone who wants something else without much thought. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? I suggest a pre-blow dry conditioner such as Kevin Murphy Untangled. A medium texture spray like Kevin Murphy Doo Over Spray is recommended to add some volume and texture after the blow dry. I use a color-safe sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to help keep hair cuticles sealed and avoid fading. My favorites are shampoo and conditioner from Phyto Citrus. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for?
Cool Girl Hair
QA with style creator Mel Schaefers Hairstylist @ Helmet Salon in West Hollywood Ca I’d describe this look as a mid-length layered cut that’s piecy and has a cool girl vibe. Her soft framed fringe is my favorite part. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? To defend against thermal use and UV rays, I still recommend using a leave-in conditioner such as Unite 7 Seconds. Until blowing drying, it would be good to use a lotion of styling like Unite Blow Set to help keep the perfect look longer. I use a dry texturizing spray like Unite Texturiza for a finished product. It will keep the medium hold style airy. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? This look is best suited for the customer who wants to look casual and effortless, but knows how to use warm equipment. A customer with a longer front or even a longer face shape would benefit from a soft framed fringe. For this shape, medium to coarse textured hair would be best if you have fine hair but this can be done easily as long as the right products are used. Textured Lob
QA with style creator Natalie Daniels Stylist @ Olive The Mansfield Beauty Lounge Tx How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?
Middle Parted Textured Lob
QA with Tory Blewett Hairstylist @ Medulla Co in Toronto Canada I’d call this the modified textured lob. It’s the long textured bob’s latest grown up version that’s been popular for the past two years. Throughout it has soft minimal layers and texture but with a beautiful and blunt silhouette that we’ll see more of this year coming especially into fall. The fringe is definitely my favorite thing about this theme. We began with a straight across fringe about four months ago and by adding some sophisticated layers, we turned it into this beautiful 70s-style curtain fringe. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? I would use a volume mist at the roots for fine to medium hair and some blow dry cream from the mid-shaft to the middle. It adds that we all love and manage frizz a little bit of shine. My go-to’s the Davines Volumist and To112’s Hair Cream. I’d use a combination of the To112 Hair Cream and To112 Serum to start at the ends and work your way up for thick hair. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? The great thing about this cut and length is that it works with any or any face shape in general. That said, medium-length hair is the most flexible because it allows a textured lob to travel. That being said, there is no one size fits all and even such a cut must be changed to match the lifestyle of the customer. I’d take the fringe out if they’re more wash-and-go and do a more A-line style so it’s less of a work. The fringe adds an extra bit of appeal to this look if they’re in styling and drying their hair.
Sleek Sophisticated
QA with Kimmy Alessio Hair Stylist Stylist @ Fenom Salon in Aventura Fl How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite? I’d describe this look as smart and elegant, but with some edge. My favorite thing about the medium length of this layered haircut. Sitting on top of the shoulders allows a lot of movement for the hair. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? I began with Pureology 21 Benefits all over damp hair for this look. It does 21 amazing things like moisturizing and much more, protecting against heat frizz regulation. Then I would use Pureology Smooth Perfection with added heat control to achieve a smooth, frizz-free look. Start off with a dime-size Pureology Hydrate Shine Max after blow-drying. For all ages and clients willing to take the time to style their hair, I would suggest this look. This look will work best on the straighter side versus curly side clients with hair. It’s also perfect for consumers who don’t want to commit to a really short cut
Blonde Blunt Edges
Textured Mid-Length Layers
QA with fashion designer Amanda Gomez Freelance Master Colorist / Hair Designer / Make-up Artist in Los Angeles Ca This shoulder-length layered hair is the perfect combination of smooth and textured. A classic long layered effect has textured mid-length layers. This look is ideal for those consumers who are afraid of change but who are extremely tired for many consecutive years of having the same long boring and drabby look. A tight perimeter is the secret to a fine to limp hair maximum voluminous look. At first, long layers may be tricky. When cutting into mid-length hair, many of us lost the strong perimeter adding the illusion of a full-looking hair head or went totally crazy scissor and lost the long-lasting effect our customer so drastically aimed for. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? In this chemically filled world we live in today, I stand by eco-conscious hair products. Finding a moisturizing vitamin-packed hair product that restores health while keeping our hair styled perfectly at 8:00 pm when it was originally styled at 6:00 am is almost an antique ocean find diamond. If you want that look to last with a solid and workable hold there will be at least a small amount of chemicals in that product, I can’t stress it enough for anyone who uses hair product or is ready to start using it. Furthermore, if you want to keep your hair and scalp clean, you can choose healthier and less toxic items by reading the ingredient tag. Stay away from rubbing or adding alcohol-based hair products to your ends and use them from root to mid hair strand consciously. Heat control is a must and should be applied individually to each hair section before applying any heat if a salt spray is your best friend if you have fine or limp hair. It will add volume to your hair and that natural just left the texture of the beach without the effort. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? To all my slender and heart-shaped eyes, I suggest this haircut and style as it flatters each crease and bends you every uniquely into your own unique bone structure. When you gave this look to a square rounded or round head shape you might end up accentuating the boxy-looking effect most females spend their lives trying to cover up with a slimmer face or oblong shaped structure you have room to expand every hair strand outward for the illusion of full body or naturally coarse thick hair while remaining feminine and sexy to the naked eye. Precision lines aren’t just about what you like and what flatters you most for every personality. Are you more structured or wherever you go, do you prefer a little chaos? 42 Greatest Short Pixie Cut Hairstyles You’ll seewas a hairstylist and colorist from Las Vegas Nv. Revised November 20, 2019
