In recent times, piracy in Brazil has become a major problem for the entertainment industry, with some torrent websites racking millions of visitors every year who access pirated content. The country’s Federal Police launched its anti-piracy operation to address the issue, and it has already resulted in the shutdown of multiple websites. Brazil’s Federal Police (Polícia Federal) operates under the Ministry of Justice to tackle the country’s piracy problem. ‘ Operation Copyright ‘ was initiated following a complaint by local anti-piracy organization Apdif (Association for the Protection of the Phonographic Industry’s Intellectual Property Rights). An unspecified Us-hosted website that saw 9 million visitors in 2017 and 140000 active users is said to be one of the biggest takedowns so far as part of the operation.
