Hi my name is Carla I am and gray. A few empowering gray hair stories have been posted by the Right Hairstyles Magazine and I also want to share my epic journey. I also learned lots of useful tips for readers who don’t know where to start their transition.
First Grays and Seeking Inspiration
I started to go gray at age; my first silver hair was on the sides of my head and became increasingly noticeable over the years. I always thought about letting my natural gray hair grow in 2013. On the internet, I was looking for inspiration and I wanted to see real young people with natural silver hair. There wasn’t much out there only a few pictures of Sarah Harris I found and I loved her look, she had long silver hair and still looked cool. My husband was my greatest supporter. He has told me to go gray because he got married in 2005, but I was so afraid to look like his mother; he’s five years younger than I was and worried about that. I knew it wouldn’t be the best thing to do to go cold turkey. I had dark brown hair and my roots were quite white from what I could see. I agreed that bleaching would be an easier transition and I wanted to keep my long hair a few inches below my shoulders as well. I did a lot of research on bleaching hair at home, but instead decided to go to a professional. It was a bit skeptical when I told my stylist what I wanted to do with her face, but she was challenged by the task at the same time. After a few hours she washed my hair and it was orange; after another bleaching a few hours later my hair was light yellow but completely damaged; it began to break and had a gummy texture, she told me that she had to cut it. I knew that was a possibility for her to cut my hair in a bob and tone it with purple shampoo and tell me I shouldn’t wash my hair for a week and come back for another bleach. After a miserable week of not washing my hair seeing myself in the mirror, she did another round of bleach and I had gray hair afterwards.
Growing My Silver Hair
That was at least my last permanent coloring job well. In a week, the gray faded and I was left with a light yellow hair that I was going to tone alone. I’ve done some research online and found that you can only tone your hair with silver hair shampoo. I bought Clairol’s Shimmer Lights. You just need to dampen your hair and put some purple shampoo in according to the directions of the bottle. Then, for five minutes, you leave it in your hair as if it were hair dye and then wash it off, leaving my hair a grayish color. If you want to try it, just be careful how long you leave the shampoo of Shimmer Lights in your hair as it can turn your locks purple.
Playing with Colors
I decided to play with color after a few months. And I wanted to use Manic Panic bought one in Purple Haze, so I used white conditioner and Manic Panic. I usually use Manic Panic spoon plus sufficient conditioner to cover my hair. You put the mix in your hair and leave it on and wash it for at least an hour. Manic Panic is a hair dye that is semi-permanent and will not damage your hair. With every wash and in my experience, the color will fade. It’s all about washing.
Care of Silver Hair
The most important thing to do is to use a purple shampoo as natural gray hair tends to turn yellow over time. The reason is that since violet in the color wheel violet is opposite to yellow, any yellow in your hair will be removed. I tried four different brands.
