There is already a sanction for Joao Félix

Bad news for him Atlético de Madrid though not as bad as they could have been. The sanction to Joao Felix, mattress footballer, for his expulsion last Saturday against the Athletic Bilbao, after he had a disregard for the referee Jesus Gil Manzano.

The Portuguese has been sanctioned with two games by the Competition Committee. Joao Felix was sent off with the second yellow card for addressing the referee of the match against him Athletic Club, Jesús Gil Manzano, “with the index finger on the temple as a sign of disagreement after being reprimanded,” according to the referee’s record. “In minute 78, Joao felix he was cautioned for hitting an opponent with his arm in a reckless manner after having been the subject of a foul, ”the referee also reported on the first yellow, which occurred just before receiving the second.

At the same time, in the section on other incidents in reference to the Portuguese attacker, he stated that Joao Felix, “Once expelled and when he was heading to the changing room tunnel, he hit a ball with his foot, throwing it into the stands as a sign of disagreement.”

This second part of the minutes has been decisive to increase the punishment of the Portuguese since one of the sanction matches is for the expulsion and the other for hitting the ball (conduct contrary to good sporting order, after being sent off, for Competition). In other words, the Committee has strictly adhered to the minutes to put that two-game sanction on Joao Felix.

The Committee’s reasoning

Atlético appealed the first yellow seen by the Portuguese, but the Committee understands that the video evidence does not serve to categorically deny what Gil Manzano wrote in the minutes.

“The player was reprimanded, according to the referee’s report, for” striking an opponent with his arm in a reckless manner after having been the object of a foul. “ The club alleges the existence of a manifest material error and maintains that the admonished player, as evidenced by the videographic evidence provided, did not carry out the action described in the arbitration report.. Although it admits the contact, the club explains that it was the result of a natural movement of the player’s body when running and actually caused by the opposing player who, in his words, “lunged at him in an attempt to obstruct him.” However, in the opinion of this Competition Committee, there would not be sufficient proof of the alleged manifest material error. That is, the version of the events alleged by the club is not inferred in an undisputed way from the evidence provided, which seems to corroborate, at least a prima facie, the referee’s account: the blow that the admonished player inflicted on the opposing player. As has been said, only proof of an error of this nature could distort the assessment made by the collegiate and, consequently, the veracity of what was recorded in the minutes. It will be necessary in any case that it is a clear or patent error, regardless of any opinion, assessment, interpretation or legal qualification that may be made, circumstances that do not occur in this case. Therefore, the rejection of the allegations and the maintenance of the disciplinary consequences of the action consigned in the arbitration act, “says the Competition resolution.

Two games to Andrea Berta

For its part, Andrea Berta, Athletic director of Atlético de Madrid, has been suspended with two other games for the words he dedicated to Gil Manzano at the end of the clash, assuring that he was a “very bad” referee and that he would never again whistle at the Metropolitano.
