Alphabet Expresses Interest in Buying Wearable Manufacturer ‘ Fitbit ‘ByBill Toulas-October 29, 2019.460 Alphabet is apparently interested in purchasing Fitbit fitness tracker and wireless wearables specialist. The company already has smartwatch manufacturer agreements with Fossil which has been collaborating with Google since 2018. Alphabet Inc. is looking to buy Fitbit Inc., the California-based empire of company companies services and products that Google created to own the tech giant. The news saw the behavior trackers ‘ share price and the wearables for wireless communication surge by 30.86 percent. The obvious message here is that Google is looking to create something to compete with Apple Watch, a company that has long been catalyzing the smartwatch market. Now the question is whether Fitbit can attain the feat? As a manufacturer of fitness trackers Fitbit is one of the most trusted brands out there. Their hardware is good quality and their software works seamlessly and measurement precision leaves nothing to be desired. However the company has been under great pressure from Huawei and Xiaomi’s more cost-effective products that have entered the market in the last few years. The company tried to carve its own path in the wearables industry, finding alliances with national healthcare insurers and trying to find their own unique role in a changing market they were pioneers in. The first signs of problems emerged in July though, with the company lowering its revenue outlook due to the low sales of its latest models. Such challenges take nothing away from the experience and ability of Fitbit to produce reliable fitness trackers and at this stage, Google ogles its assets. This is not the first time, though, that Google has an authority on wearables. In addition, Fossil Inc. has announced its intention to sell its smartwatch technology to Google for $40 million. If you remember the two companies collaborated closely since last year. Google has not made any statements about it or Fitbit so the exact plans for these acquisitions have not yet been rolled out in detail.
