The United States ties but continues to beat records

The women’s national team of USA set a record of 22 matches in a row without losing at home by drawing without goals against a South Korea surprisingly tough. The Americans fell one victory away from equaling the longest home streak in team history, established between April 1993 and February 1996. In 61 home games they have achieved 55 wins and only six draws. In addition, it was the first time in 60 home games that the team failed to score.

It was the first of two games against South Korea. The teams will meet again Tuesday in St. Paul, Minnesota. Goalkeeper Yoon Young-geul made eight saves, including a 76-minute shot from Carli Lloyd, who was playing her 315th match for the team.

Before the match, Lindsey Horan was honored for her 100th game with the team, which she played in Tokyo at the Olympics. Horan was also named captain of the party. The United States could not count on the injured Andi Sullivan, Julie Ertz, Alyssa Naeher and Sam Mewis. Crystal Dunn and Christen Press also chose not to participate as a precaution. The crash at Children’s Mercy Park had 18,467 spectators.

Next week’s game will be Lloyd’s last with the team. He announced his retirement after the Tokyo Games, where the United States won the bronze medal. The United States had won the previous 13 matches against South Korea.
