The company is financed by contributions from different companies. The organization is hoping to earn its first revenue this year through advertising. Pinterest is considered highly commercially important. The visual social media site is important in driving sales for companies whose goods are featured on the web as pins. Women the bulk of Pinterest users make up a valuable audience advertisement. Now the company is looking to directly make some of that money through ads that will appear as sponsored pins similar to the content shared on Instagram Facebook Twitter and Tumblr. The company first revealed it would start experimenting with ads in a postOh How Pinteresting last fall! Official news site Pinterest. The post starts with Pinterest CEO and Creator Ben Silbermann explaining how he uses Pinterest, and how he and his team can ensure the website’s longevity. That’s why it’s so important for us that Pinterest is a service to live here. We will start experimenting with promoting such pins from a select group of businesses to help make sure it does. I know some of you might think ‘ Oh great … the banner ads are coming here. ‘ But we’re determined not to let that happen. Since then the advertised pins have been quietly dispersed throughout the platform beginning in October 2013. Among the first sponsored posts, the Wall Street Journal calls home decor website Wayfair hotel chain Four Seasons and Unilever brands TRESemmé and Hellmanns (yes to the mayonnaise) The advertisement comes in the form of advertised pins such as the recipes in a cooking magazine’s promotional page, a snapshot of a holiday resort or an advertisement from a fashion magazine. The advertisements are intended to look like the rest of the website’s content, so that users repin it to their boards like any other pin on the website. That’s the goal of featuring ads that capture the user’s attention through quality content that doesn’t flash banners. A near comparison to this new advertising is the supported posts in Tumblr which look like normal user-generated posts except for a small icon identifying them as advertiser-generated posts. No word yet will spread across the social media platform on when advertised pins.
