One of the most dangerous natural disasters suffered by the Land on more than one occasion are the tsunamis. A study of CSIC has come to publish an article in the Scientific Reports magazine, where the marine fault of Averroes, getting surprising results.
This marine fault, located in the Alboran Sea, It has been discovered that the geology of this territory has the capacity to generate waves of more than six meters. This fact could affect some territories of the autonomous community of Andalusia.
The conclusions of the study on tsunamis
Experts believed, until now, that jump-in faults were incapable of generating any type of tsunami. Despite this, the work carried out by the CSIC has ended with the conclusion that jump failures could generate tidal waves. Specifically, that of Averroes it would be capable of generating a magnitude 7 earthquake.
Ferran estrada, the main leader of this work carried out, has concluded that “any day could happen”, although it has not been possible to specify much more in the study carried out. On the other hand, Estrada has reported that in the Alboran Sea there are many other faults for which it is unknown whether they could create tsunamis.
All these studies, which have been based on a model of deformation of the sea floor, have concluded the work that the six-meter tsunamis could reach the Andalusian and Moroccan coast. The estimated time would be 20 minutes or half an hour as much.
As a preventive measure, the researcher wanted to recommend in the study that in the affected territories, posters with indications for the population visiting the areas where these natural phenomena could occur.
