Rarely would I say yes to customers with bleached hair because it’s just not good enough. This client was already mine’s current client and I was the one who made her hair lighter. I knew what I was dealing with, and I knew that she was willing to do the job and invest in pre-perm jobs, so that’s the only reason I decided to do this hair service. Customers sometimes tell me that they want a perm to make their hair less hassle, but that’s far from reality. If your hair is colored, you need to keep up with regular protein treatments to keep your hair healthy post allowing proper application of the right curl supporting products during wash days and proper drying. Sleeping on a pillowcase of silk or satin is a must after a permit not to rough up the cuticle. It’s just as important to continue with proper home treatment! If you’re a customer thinking about getting a perm, if you don’t have bleach on your skin, you’ll be a much better candidate. You are also not a candidate for a perm if you wash your hair every day. You don’t want to disturb your curl pattern or dry your hair by washing too much once you get your curls / waves. Powdered dry shampoo such as Oway plant and mineral refresh for those non-wash days is my favorite right now. Once I book a permit with me, I also need a personal consultation. So we can see if you are an applicant for a permit to discuss and book any pretreatments along with time and service costs.

The Permian Spiral

It takes several hours to get a spiral permit in the salon – the longer it takes, the more it costs. Getting a haircut with layers is easier so you don’t end up with a triangle so I like cutting before and after the perm. Jessy used two-rod sizes in the back parts on Maryanne’s hair and I wanted to use 4 different rod sizes on top and front to create the effect of more layers and make it look organic. Obtaining a permit can be low maintenance, but the curls need to be styled with a little effort. I would consider using a curl-specific or hydrating sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner as long as you can in shampoos. Full Pureology Curl or RCo’s Cassette are great choices. You can dampen your hair in the shower or spritz with a water bottle to clean your curls between shampooing and spray the Color Fanatic leave-in of Pureology. One of my favorite styling products for a perm is a 2 in 1 cream-gel mix from Pureology’s Curl Full Style Infusion. After you apply your items carefully scrunch your curls air dry then raise your curls on low-medium settings with a diffuser. Try not to brush your hair a lot throughout the day – this will eliminate frizz and make your curls look amazing!
