He began performing at various night clubs when he turned 17. He had taken the stage name Jack Roy, which by the time he was 19 years old would later become his legal name, and perform full time. He struggled financially while making $300 a week for the next few years and despite securing numerous gigs including one at a resort in upstate New York, and other side work. After meeting singer Joyce Indig, Dangerfield quit the show business in 1951. The couple married and together moved to New Jersey. Two children brian and melanie enjoyed their time together. Dangerfield prioritized his family needs and became a salesman for aluminum products. The couple however gave the relationship another shot by remarrying in 1963 but the marriage ended permanently in 1970 after seven years of struggle. He faced ridicule by the time he returned to acting, and eventually changed his name to Jack Benny’s Rodney Dangerfield taken. 
Throughout this period he also realized that he needed an on-stage person with whom his audiences could relate. Later it coined the catchphrase I don’t get any respect. What many consider his big break came in early 1970s when he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. He soon had additional performances on The Dean Martin Show and the Tonight Show. In Manhattan, he opened his own comedy club Dangerfield’s and it helped him to be closer to his family. Death
Sadly the comedy legend is no longer present in the bodyeventhough his plays continue to live. Since suffering complications from a heart valve replacement procedure, he died on October 5th 2004.
