This is a haircut that can be adapted to the face shape of anybody! A good shag’s main components are curtain fringe lean length and crown volume. If you want to partially cover your forehead or accentuate the area between the eye and the cheekbone, you can base the length of your fringe. You can then add volume through layers in the crown and take it as short or as disconnected as you like. This then removes some of the weight in your hairbut’s mid-section, preserving the end density. Then you can choose to set out the rest of the form for more of a retro look depending on what you and your stylist agree. Anyone who wants to wear this look will invest in a diffuser attachment so they can add to their hair volume and texture. The volume can be minimized by air drying. I enjoy using blowdry and sea salt spray volume foams and gels to finish. It brings more texture and strength to the hair without getting it too frizzy!
Blunt Long Bob (Lob)

QA with Julie Holbrook Stylist Stylist @ Ave Salon Fashion Bridal in Ogden Ut How would you describe this look? It’s a blunt long bob (lob) with plenty of texture. It doesn’t have a top layer but plenty of broken layers inside. I like it can be worn sleek or it has tons of layers and texture when curled and looks more sassy and fun. Any advice that someone thinks about it? Air drying or all-drying allows to add extra volume and texture. Use a 1-inch iron or 1.25-inch iron hot tool curl. Let the curls cool and spray as Kevin Murphy Bedroom Hair with a texture mist. Combine it with a wet brush etch and it’s fine!
How would you characterize this look? I would characterize this look as a boho chic 60s/70s. The long fringe, along with the calm beach waves, is probably my favorite thing about this theme. This is a cool, lived-in and easy-to-wear look for any opportunity from day to night. Every suggestions for someone to consider? Keep in mind the condition of your skin. The fringe is the subject of this cut to ensure that it is correctly groomed and styled. If your hair is frizzy / curly, you will probably have to spend a couple of minutes styling it in the mornings.
Bangs
‘
Face-Framing Layers
How would you describe this look? This is a haircut with soft layers and light graduation produced with razor texture and side-swept bangs. It’s a fresh and modern look that can be recreated on a daily basis through styling. The practicality is what I like most about this cut. Any advice that someone thinks about it? These short haircuts are simple and trendy in a modern look. To women with strong personalities, it’s a great slice. Thanks to the disconnected tips that give the face softness and lightness, somebody with a long face shape may wear this cut and style. Before drying, we used Revlon Equave on the hair. With a Babyliss iron and a mattifying powder called Dust It Flex by Osis, the hair was styled after the hair was dry. Layered Cut with Textured Bangs
QA with Aimee Ludwig Hairstylist style maker @ Hair We Are in Grand Junction Co How would you describe this look? Without losing any size, we wanted to change the look. She wanted to cut a curtain bang but we settled on a complete textured bang with the option of letting it grow into a curtain bang so she could get out of the fringe for several weeks without a touch. Any advice that someone thinks about it? My recommendation would be to really consider when slicing a fringe or bang the commitment you want to make. They can be a great way to change a haircut’s whole look without making major length changes. I’m still telling my guests to just go on a date or jump in and get married … to the bangs, of course! That always helps me gage how dedicated they are willing to be to a new look or if they just want a temporary change and they have nothing to keep up with. Once you know the date status, you will explore with you the possibilities of what kind of fringe would fit for your guest. You want to keep them from hating you for talking to them about a drastic change when they just needed a soft side-wept fringe to feel like they got a new update on their long hair. When making this decision, a detailed consultation is very necessary. I also like to recommend that my guests wear their hair a lot as it gives the typical ponytail a completely different look. If a guest has never worn a bang before I pull the hair forward to see if there are any cowlicks that will impact how the hair will fall. Before making any decisions, I’ll check with both wet and dry hair. You want to be very clear to your guest that bangs require much more maintenance and may not be ideal for this look for their hair and face shape. The drug that I highly recommend is dry shampoo! A good dry shampoo will make you love your bangs or fringe throughout the day. The front oils can make a big fringe look heavy and greasy. Immediately after styling, I tell my guests to spray them to keep the oils from working their way and then refresh them as needed throughout the day.
Ash Brown to Caramel
‘ Highlights of
QA with> Carmen! Carmen! Salon and Spa in Columbia Sc With Stevie Nicks as an inspiration, this look is a modern take on a classic 70s shag. I love this cut’s flexibility and the way it offers long hair movement. What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? I’m using products from Aveda. I used Smooth Infusion Style Prep Styling Creme and Dry Remedy Oil to finish the finishes in particular for this look. I would use Brilliant Damage Control Texture Tonic if you want a more wavy or beachy look and finish with a light spray of Air Control hairspray. What kind of customer would you recommend this look for? You can blow it straight in beachy waves in terms of styling or even wand it for a more polished look. The active lifestyle suits all of these fashion choices.
Modern Auburn and Brown Shag
How are you going to describe this look and what is your favorite? I’d describe this look as a modern day shag influenced by fall. The look features long rounded bangs that connect to the haircut. Her layers in the front are shorter to give her a more textured / shaggy look but they still connect with the rest of her haircut to create fluidity throughout. A drop leaf influenced her light. We wanted to portray the warm tones of fall while preserving it with natural and low maintenance. The face-framing bangs have to be my favorite thing about this look because they frame her face so well and match her personality. I love her color as well. Last year, I scanned her hair a couple of times and I love the color being so dimensionally deposited. It’s just finishing the look. What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? Then take a curling iron of 1 1/4-inch and curl large sections in opposite directions. Make sure to leave out the ends to make more of a wave that looks natural. Spray a texture spray like the Dry Texturizing Spray from Oribe throughout the hair then brush the curls out of the finger comb and disperse the product. What kind of customer would you recommend this look for? This hairstyle is very flexible and for anyone with straight or wavy hair, it would be perfect. Every day with a blow dryer, you must be able to style your bangs, but the rest of the look is low maintenance. Short and fun are the choppy sheets, but long enough to pull back into a ponytail or bun. For most people, this color is also perfect because it is rich and natural which allows the consumer to have fun with their color without going too far.
Davines are the products I recommend to use to recreate this look. It’s a Texturizing Powder on the scalp to raise the roots and it’s a Dry Texturizing Spray to add some grit to the skin. I love the textured spray because even if I’m a little heavy handed with the spray it doesn’t weigh too much down the hair creates a lived look for your customer. To preserve this look, I would advise regular trimming of bangs as they are the thing that needs the most maintenance. Apart from that, having fun with this look is easy. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? I recommend that you modify the cut to meet the needs of your client. For these kinds of cuts, I prefer cutting hair in its natural state because I want my client to reproduce the look easily. I had a lot of fun with my curly girls and my ladies with straighter locks with this cut, but I like to take their face shape into account and determine how severe I frame their faces accordingly. Edgy Textured Pixie
QA with Payson Az’s Rim Country Cosmetology Academy How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it? What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? I highly recommend a pomade to preserve this feel. Using a pomade helps you to spike up your hair a little bit and you can pick up the fringe for the sleek but messy look. I used pomade from Johnny B Xtra Hold. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? This hair would be great for someone who likes to style their hair every day, but who doesn’t want to spend a lot of time on it. Simply add some pomade while the hair is wet to create the texture you want and you’re done. This particular pixie was done on a client with fairly thick hair so we could create with it a ton of texture. I think this is the best haircut for a long-faced edgy client who wants an easy-to-style look. Long straight hair with a Blunt Cut
‘ Krasota in Krasnodar Russia How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite? What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? In this situation, I used the shampoo and conditioner Redken Frizz Dismiss and the thermal smoothing blow dry lotion Redken Satinwear 04. Such products help with long-term strength and shine safety without weighing down the hair What kind of consumer do you suggest this look for? Anyone can surely pull off straight side bangs even with long wavy hair. D a few layers for a chic and textured look.
Sleek Straight Hair with Side Swept Bangs
Deep Side Fringe
QA with style creator Audrey Watson Hairstylist / Colorist @ Edo Salon in San Francisco Ca I think I’d call this a seamless layered look with a side swept bang or a long shag haircut with a deep side part. How well it works with the natural texture of my client is the greatest thing about styling this kind of look. It’s cut to dry in this shape effortlessly whether you’re airing dry or blowing dry. Any advice that someone thinks about it? This kind of look in everyone will work! If the bangs are separated, the length / shape of the bangs the change depending on the texture of the density and the shape of the head. But this is an extremely versatile cut which is perfect for someone who wants to maintain the length but add some shape. I used only two styling products Rahua’s salt spray in her roots and some Hairstory Hair Balm in her mids and ends. I was drying her roots and spreading her length. My goal was to dry it as close as possible to the natural and minimize the styling.
Long Side Swept Fringe

QA with Alexis Taminna Allen Hairstylist @ Vogue Hair & Beauty Salon in Augusta Ga How would you describe this look? The airy texture that I produced using a razor is what I love most about this look. This customer’s hair is very fine, smooth and flat, so I had to rasp it delicately. I like the layers as well as the side swept bangs that she asked for because it makes the cut unique and enhances her beautiful eyes. The advice that someone thinks about it?How are you going to describe this look? This look is a pixie that is removed. Like a typical pixie, the sides and back are cut very short while the nape is tapered towards the hairline. The crown (from the round at the head’s crown to the parietal’s round) is disconnected and textured longer left. The fringe is the sassiest part of the cut. I took about an inch and a half section around the front hairline that I cut shorter so that the fringe’s longer bits could swoop over. While this was to make it suitable for the shape of her face as she has a long, narrow face that really complements the shorter fringe, she still has enough distance to maneuver around and is flexible. She has fine hair so before blow-drying it smoothly we styled her with a light volume mist. I finished her off with a spray of texture and with my finger I gave her a light allle hair. Her double platinum process wasn’t quite ready for a touch-up and I love the depth that gives the texture a little bit of heart! Any advice that someone thinks about it? Like swoopy fringe and short cut fringe, pixies come in so many shapes and sizes. There’s a pixie for every face that the key has the right pixie for your unique characteristics! Disconnecting bits helps to give some shine to a pixie and keeps it looking young and fresh while giving you styling flexibility. Classic cropped pixies are timeless to have them on the textured side to keep them fresh and new in appearance. It takes minutes to style with minimal items and suits every lifestyle, the best thing about short hair. If your hair is on the finer side, I’d stick to volumizing products and texture sprays (dry shampoo gives fine hair volume and grit!), while someone with thicker hair should stick to heavier moisture-rich products such as smoothing cream / serum and/or oils to help control the hair weight. Pixies work great for everybody. While fine hair is the most suitable for thicker hair and curly hair, they are also great! Pixies can be modern sassy and so many options are available. Be brave and always grow back for it’s fur!
Sweeping Side Fringe

QA with Francis-James Hawkins Style Creator Hairdresser @ Mesh Coiffure Montreal Qc How would you describe this look? Chic incompetence this look is great for customers who want to be beautiful without too much maintenance. I think they all have the same roots in fashion music and art. My inspiration for this look was to meet Juliette Lewis soft with an edge from Lana Del Rey. I used the original natural level 5 based on it. I started to do some really thin highlight alternating length (between 1.5 and 4 inches) where I started to maintain a dark root shadow effect. Any advice that someone thinks about it? This look is perfect for a woman who needs low-maintenance glamour. The look was finished with a round brush blowdry (Poil de Sanglier) but left to set in the hair as rollers were used to bring that made-undone movement.
Master Stylist Desiree Rosillo Owner Master Stylist @ Salon Tribeca in Rancho Cucamonga Ca How would you describe this look? I love the dramatic appearance of her bangs. Side swept bangs are a great way to change your appearance without cutting the length but not as dramatic as forward bangs. With face-framing layers and long square layers throughout the back, we kept her hair long but added movement. She wanted her hair to look as full but not too heavy as possible. The placement of her color is natural, but the blonde’s brightness adds a subtle contrast. Any advice that someone thinks about it?I see this customer every few months and over the years we’ve done a ton of different looks. Typically, with my hair color, I aspire for a more natural look, and so I hold that mind. For sure, she wanted red and a kind of ombré style. For a softer growout, I chose a level close to her natural colour. My favorite part about this color is how subtle it is to make a statement. The suggestions that someone feels about it? Find your personal style and lifestyle. Talk to your stylist about the tone of your skin and the length of your face. It should be minimal to look. Blowing the fringe is usually a must. Later with an iron, depending on you can let it dry hair and refine the style. Or you can dry the canblow and do the same with an iron. Versatile Side-Swept Bang

QA with Ashley Ertel Level 4A Stylist @ Hair Gallery at the Tariffville / Collinsville Mill Ct How would you describe this look? The suggestions that someone feels about it? This haircut has a lot of texture to give it a loose and wavy look with my flat iron. I used RedkenWa Blast, my favorite product, to break the waves. Asymmetric undercut
QA with style creator Emily Michalik Hairstylist Colorist @ Farmington Hills Studio For Hair Mi How would you describe this look? This is one of my favorite customers and for three people she has enough hair! Her hair is very thick, so I convinced her to go with an undercut in this asymmetrical style. To me, it’s all about solving the hair problems of my guest. The undercut is my favorite part of that look. It not only solves her unnecessary bulk and weight problem, but it also gives her some edge. The advice I have is to go for it for someone who wants to try a look like this! I think if you have the right style, any face shape can rock short hair and/or fringe. The side-swept bangs tend to soften and mitigate that because they have more square designs. When and when she wants, she can do minimal styling. I believe less is more when it comes to the material. For optimum lifting, she uses Eufora’s Volume Fusion Spray on damp hair and blows it down with her fingertips the opposite way. My client travels all year round so it’s easier to have a kick-ass ass style and less hair to deal with while exploring the world and my job is done.
Classic Fringe Side-Swept

This is a one-length shoulder cut with additional texture and soft layers completed with a side-swept knock. To build more sound and motion, I suggest using Kevin Murphy’s Smoothing. Cream for a smooth finish and Doo. Over. Long Layer Side-Swept Bangs
QA with stylist Tina Malhotra Stylist @ L’Appartement Hair Boudoir in New York NyIt’s a flattering look if your face shape is oval or round. Side-swept bangs are also a perfect way to hide wider foreheads and help to create an ideal face framing for hairlines to recede. Also, this style is desirable if you want to try bangs but without maintaining a classic fringe (which requires frequent bang trims and stylist visits). With your cut, side-swept bangs grow beautifully so they’re a nice way to test drive a new look without the commitment!
Rejuvenated 90’s Bob
QA with Shirly Stylist style creator @ Hidden Beauty in Chula Vista Ca How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite? I’d describe it as fun and flirting. To give a sexy look, it’s a newer version of a 90s bob with a side-swept bang. I love how bangs can change the appearance of a woman to make them feel young and sexy. Changing your look is a nice and easy way without removing length from the rest of your hair. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? What kind of customer would you recommend this look for? To any woman who wants for improve her appearance, I suggest bangs. Most face shapes fit side-swept bangs and can work with most textures. If you have thick wavy or curly hair, be sure to blow out for a smooth finish with tension with your brush. For thinner hair, you made it necessary to cut a larger section to create this look as well as to avoid any oil-based products to prevent the hair from looking greasy.
Blunt Bob Side-Swept Bangs
QA Style Creator Ashley Williams Hairstylist @ Luxury Springfield Mo How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it? This is a slightly angled blunt bob with long layers and side-swept bangs we painted a rich red shade. By making allled waves, we styled it and actually curled the bangs loosely into the waves. It helps keep the bangs in your face from falling. In reality, this client is rising straight across bangs and enjoys the longer side-swept style. I love this look because it looks sleek and effortless, and the side-swept bangs help soften and add more dimension. This look was made with Redken Root Boost Kenra Dry Texture Spray and Schwarzkopf Elastic Hairspray from Sebastian Heat Protectant. For almost every look, all four items are great. The color was created by permanent and semi-permanent Schwarzkopf Essensity. What kind of customer would you recommend this look for? Side-swept bangs are a classic look. They’re perfect for the person who wants bangs but isn’t quite willing to commit to something like bangs straight. Nearly any style and face shape is softened. The only person for whom they may not be right is the person who does not like hair falling in their eyes. Nevertheless, the advantage of side swept bangs is that with a bobby pin or braid, they are easy to pin to the side. The length of the eyebrow to the length of the chin may vary. Overall, they are as versatile as the bob with which they are photographed. Red tones can be slightly higher than the bangs and split, as in the photo. If you’re not a natural redhead, you’ll probably see a root retouch and color refresher appointment every six weeks. What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? For short hair, when it comes to styling, you can keep it simple. For add a bit of grit and strength, a lightweight matt finish putty is all you need. What kind of customer would you recommend this look for? It is ideal to have an oval face shape or someone who wants to show off their facial characteristics. Every short haircut can be customized to accentuate the best features of a person.
QA with> Finally Lisa’s Southbridge Hair Salon Ma How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite? I’d describe this hairstyle with a long side-swept bang as a layered bob. My favorite thing about this hairstyle is that it has a lot of texture and movement that makes it look lived-in that everyone wants. Matrix’s Volume Builder Mousse and Wonder Boost Root Lifter are highly recommended for maximum volume to maintain this look. The cocktailing of these two products creates a perfect basis for the dry blow. Use Matrix’s Texture Spray and Proforma hairspray to finish this style. This spray of texture is my product! What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? This look is perfect for anyone in search of a lived-in hairstyle that is more alluring. This side-swept bang provides the bob with a custom look and can go with almost any other hairstyle. For stylish style, the size of this bang is flexible. It can be pinned to the twisted side and if your feeling is braided enough, try it!

Edgy LobMy client came to me to want a new look that wasn’t mummy. She sat in the chair and said she needed Botox, so instead I just suggested bangs. After school I hadn’t had a fringe, I produced a soft side-swept fringe that would make it look better. I think this style suits oblong oval and heart-shaped faces as well as straight, naturally wavy, medium textured hair.
