Being such a vast and varied continent, Africa has some curiosities and contradictions that are worth knowing. In fact, it is a country that has been the object of third world settlers and that have lived (and continue to live) great wars to gain independence from foreign peoples. Next we are going to discover you some curiosities about Africa so that you get to know this continent a little better.
Dictatorial regimes
Currently there are only thirteen countries in the world that are governed by dictators, that is, heads of state who imposed their rule by force without the people being able to say anything at all. Of these 13 countries, 10 are in Africa.
Diamond producer
It is one of the continents with the highest poverty rate and yet it is the largest producer of diamonds in the world; in fact, 50% of the diamonds that exist are of African origin. The pioneer countries in this business are Angola, South Africa and Botswana.
Uncolonized country: Ethiopia
It is the ONLY country on the entire continent that has never been colonized. It is the oldest country with more than 2000 years of history. It is inhabited by more than 80 different ethnic groups that speak different languages but maintain a good coexistence, respect and tolerance.
The pyramids of Sudan
When you think of pyramids, the first thing that comes to mind is Egypt, right? Well, in Sudan they have more pyramids than in Egypt and than any other country in the world. It has 223 pyramids in cities like Meroe, Nuri, Al Kurru and Gebel Barkal while in Egypt there are 110 pyramids.
Animals of africa
Tanzania is the country that contains the highest number of wild animals, in fact, 20% of the large African mammals are found in the national parks of this region. In Madagascar we also find a great peculiarity regarding the fauna it houses and that is that this island is home to species of fauna and flora that are not found in any other area of the world, 80% of the animals are endemic and, among them, the infraorder lemur is included.
