Kaspersky Labs researchers have discovered a malware which hijacks Atms and transforms it into slot machines. You can even disperse cash from the infected machines as you win! In March of last year the WinPot malware was first discovered in forums. The hackers behind the malware on WinPot designed the Ui to look like a slot machine. A Spin click has a visual interface. Through pressing the “Spin” button, cash will be dispensed whilst the “Stop” button will stop cash flow. There is also a “Search” button to search for additional cash cassettes, and restart the game. .603 Figure 2 Image Courtesy of Kaspersky Labs WinPot is similar in nature to Cutlet Maker, another common malware which was loaded via Usb ports into Atms. In 2017 Cutlet Maker was valued at $5000 but is currently priced at $500-$1000. WinPot commands a price tag similar to Cutlet Maker, and is easily accessible in dark web forums. Atm computers have become prime targets for cybercriminals with in many cases inadequate security measures in place to secure them. The creation of atmmalware is fairly simple. Most countries do not have up-to-date security practices to protect against attacks from outside. It is up to banks and financial institutions to take appropriate security measures to protect users from such malware attacks. To be among the first to get news on fresh tech.
