Firefox Focus 9.0 Comes with An In-Built Blocker ByNitish Singh-January 21, 2019.850 Figure 1 The next update of Mount Tech Firefox Focus is expected to upgrade the ad blocker in February. The new ad-blocker would block ad monitoring and any ads that violate user privacy. At launch, Mozilla will be performing a test phase to see if ad-blockers are increasing interest in and use of the software. For those who haven’t heard of Firefox Focus it’s essentially a lightweight version of the standard Android and iOs Firefox software that’s lighter on resources and more oriented on user privacy features. The software does not save your passwords and Mozilla doesn’t monitor your browsing activity. Many ads on the new 8.1 build are already blocked but some changes will be made to ensure that the browser blocks all ads. .851.851 Figure 2 Photo Courtesy of Bleeping Computer On February 12 th2019, the latest blocking app is scheduled to go live and the feature is designed to block ad trackers rather than ads alone. Before its release, the app will undergo a test phase, and half the users will have the ad-blocker activated while others will have the feature temporarily disabled. Mozilla can collect data on the use metrics of the Firefox browser to see whether getting the feature improves use, and whether users first allow the apps. Firefox actually doesn’t disclose any more details and we’ll have to wait until the release of the update to find out more. Web apps have been introducing ad-blockers over the past two years following a series of user privacy incidents. In June 2018, Microsoft Edge for Android was one of the first popular browsers to adopt the feature, and other developers are also following suit.
