ByGabriela Vatu-June 25, 2019.1078 Cyber attacks are constantly taking place and whether or not they will reach you or your employee is a matter of luck and time. Nonetheless, one thing that is very important is to learn how to do your part to stop these attacks that are where education comes in. Shlomi Gian is the Ceo of CybeReady a company that provides autonomous cybersecurity training programs for businesses aiming to teach everyone how to stop phishing attacks at the very least. Shlomi Gian speaks in an interview with TechNadu about the best tactics for staying safe and extending the cyber awareness to all around us. Shlomi Gian: I spent the early part of my career in various management roles for the engineering. Several years later I became more interested in the business side. I’ve been fascinated by problem-solving from the early days first as an engineer and then as a leader. I participated in the mobile revolution that began when these small connected devices gave us “on the go” Internet access. I have no doubt that we will be able to think digitally and express our thoughts without even speaking or typing in. Such rapid developments need a change in the way we work, since they also expose us to new risks. This is the main reason I became involved in CybeReady shortly after Roblox bought PacketZoom the former company that I was operating in 2018. Email as the main vehicle for modern communication has exposed our society to new threats and a whole generation needs to change their behavior in order to defend themselves better from cyber predators. Unlike anything else, CybeReady found a way with minimal effort to change actions on a broad scale. That’s where the future of cybersecurity education lies. TechNadu: One of the big issues we see nowadays is the lack of technology awareness, which is something CybeReady is trying to cover to some degree. What are some of the most common online scams for which people fall within the knowledge of your company? Shlomi Gian: The biggest threat to organizations comes from phishing emails that account for over 90 percent of all infringements of data. Worker safety awareness training is therefore certainly key to winning the fight. The irony is that today more than ever businesses invest in awareness training programs but with all existing approaches requiring the customer to handle the program the outcomes are disappointing and the behaviour of employees towards phishing attacks does not improve. The most common attacks people fall for when it comes to phishing emails, are often the easiest. A “credible source” (such as Amazon or LinkedIn) two-sentence email asking an employee to change their password is a typical one. Another popular attack comes from a familiar sender-a colleague our boss, etc. will usually get information hackers from social channels. An example of this would be an email from the company Hr with a link to the “photos of the company event.” The email usually sent over the holiday season often triggers high click rates among all departments of the company. TechNadu: What are some of the habits your training is most frequently trying to correct among your customers ‘ employees? TechNadu: While CybeReady focuses on workers from different corporations, what can be done to raise awareness of the different cyber scams targeting regular people? How can we increase level of education for all? Shlomi Gian: Every employee we train is also a “regular person” who uses his computers as well as receiving emails to his private accounts. We may be the parent of somebody and are the offspring of somebody, and have their own friends and social / professional networks. Therefore, as we train employees, they take these lessons and experiences with them to their extended families and empower friends and children of their parents to adopt a more safe cyber lifestyle. I firmly believe that, in addition to training employees in the workplace, everyone should be educated in schools and community centers in order to raise awareness and mitigate the risks of cyber attacks. TechNadu: Let’s take some steps to get everyone informed. What are some precautions to stop phishing attacks? Shlomi Gian: We’re trying to educate everyone to watch every single email with a critical eye landing in their inbox check for disturbing signs like unknown senders with uncommon Urls language and even email meaning and timing. Also when it comes to emails announcing the award and Free stuff the thumb rule is that if it sounds too good to be true then it actually is. The benefit of training in security awareness is that it becomes second nature just like any other life skills training-if performed deliberately and methodologically. They see how any size company changes within three to six months and the ranking for employee resilience increases dramatically. But hackers become more advanced by the day and use social engineering to find new methods to trick workers so preparation should be an ongoing effort and should mimic as much as possible “real-life assaults.” We also provide our customers with “PhishCage” as part of our training program a reporting button that allows workers to report any suspicious email, thereby motivating employees to play an active role in keeping their business phish-free. TechNadu: The company has customers from a wide array of industries. Have you found that any particular industry is more frequently targeted by phishing attacks? TechNadu: You know the risks in the cyber security industry what are some of the things that you do personally to stop web scams and other kinds of cyber attacks? Shlomi Gian: There are everywhere in the electronic world today attackers. I personally avoid opening emails from unknown sources or answering messages from unknown contacts for that purpose. I discuss best practices with family and friends as a parent who are less aware or not as “techie.” Similarly to protecting a business, the reasoning here is that hackers will continue to search for the weakest link such as the new employee or unsuspecting person and eventually find a way in.
