Steps to follow:
1
The first step in making mashed potatoes is bring water to boil in a pot big. In this way, while the water is heating up, we will wash the potatoes to make sure that the skin is clean before making the mashed potatoes.
2
Once the water boils, we will have to add the whole potatoes (without peeling them). Also add a little salt. In this way, we will ensure that the potato absorbs less water and conserves the starch. If they are small or you cut them into pieces, they will be cooked before, significantly reducing the wait.
3
Let the potatoes boil until soft. There is no exact cooking time since it will vary depending on the type and size of the tubers, so you will have to prick them with a fork to check if they are soft or not. To do this, prick a potato and raise the fork up. If it comes out on its own and the potato falls down, it is done.
4
Turn off the heat, remove the water from the pan and let the potatoes cool until they are warm. This way you will avoid burning yourself when peeling them. Next, cut them into small pieces to be able to put them in the food mill and thus make the potato puree in the simplest way.
5
You can also make mashed potatoes without a masher using a manual potato masher –potato masher in English- to make the puree. If you don’t have these utensils, you can mash the potatoes with a fork. This work can take a long time and you should make sure that all the potato pieces are well mashed so that they do not lump.
6
Once the potatoes are completely mashed, we recommend add a few pieces of butter and stir well. If you prefer, you can make mashed potatoes without butter, replacing it with a drizzle of olive oil. You can also get a creamy mashed potato by adding a little hot milk to the end.
7
Finally, you can add some seasoning that gives a special touch to this recipe for mashed potatoes, such as grated cheese, aromatic herbs, flavored oil, sobrasada or some type of sauce. Ready! Now you can serve and enjoy this grandmother’s mashed potatoes, either alone or with other diners. Take advantage!
