How to calculate a discount

Do you love sales and promotions With discount? And who does not! The truth is that it is very practical to take advantage of the seasons in which prices are reduced, whether in the summer season, the January sales, Black Friday or other occasions, but sometimes it is difficult for us to know what the final price is when discounts apply. In general, they are specified in percentages and we will have to calculate what quantity it corresponds to and then subtract it from the original price and thus obtain the real price that we would pay for that product. If you are not sure how to do it, then keep reading because in this practical oneHOWTO article we explain in detail how to calculate a discount.

Steps to follow:

1

For a faster way to calculate the discount, we recommend one of the easiest ways to achieve it. Is about divide the discount percentage by 100 to convert it to a decimal.

We give you an example so that you can visualize it better:

If the discount we want to calculate is 40%, you must divide 40/100 = 0.4

2

Once you have it, you just have to multiply the discount converted into decimal times original or base price, in this way you will be able to find the discount percentage.

We return to give an example:

If the original price is € 120 and the discount we want to calculate is 40% (0.4), the operation to be carried out will be 120 x 0.4 = € 48

3

Other quick way to calculate a discount, that is, the money that we will save, is the following continuing with the same example: (40 x 120) / 100 = 4800/100 = € 48

4

To finish with our calculation of the percentage, we will only need subtract the discount amount from the original price that we have obtained.

We put an example again so that you can see it more clearly:

If € 48 is the 40% discount of € 120, to find the final price that we are going to pay we must subtract the smallest amount (discount) from the largest (original price): 120 – 48 = € 72

Therefore, in this case, we would be buying a product that before worth € 120 and that, having a 40% off, now we costs € 72, what we save 48 €.
