LineageOs 16 Patch Brings Android Pie to 2014 UsersByBill Toulas-March 4 2019.1070 Older Android devices with LineageOs 16 will finally get a breath of fresh air and new features. Initially 30 devices are funded but in the near future more are bound to follow. In terms of security features and enhancements Android Pie has taken leaps and bounds forward. LineageOs, formerly known as the “CyanogenMod,” is a custom Android construct that people use as a “Rom” picture to keep their phones up-to-date with the latest innovations in mobile phone operating system technologies. Having a hardware device that’s still capable of stuck two or even three major versions of Android back is one of the platform’s most significant issues and biggest sources of frustration. Simply put, manufacturers don’t spend enough to enforce regular updates to their devices and so owners of even expensive models may find themselves using a phone full of exploitable security vulnerabilities soon after they buy it. One way to solve this problem is to use one of Google’s pixel smartphones, but since these apps are costly they are not for everyone out there. The other choice is to choose one of the phones that participate in the “Android One” program but as those are few right now they may not meet any preference or user requirement that may be required. The third choice is to use a custom Rom such as LineageOs 16 which brings Android Pie (version 9) to devices that for years have stopped receiving updates. Some of the supported models include three smartphones released back in 2014, the Galaxy S5 Nexus 6 and OnePlus One!Motorola Moto X4 Motorola Moto Z OnePlus 2 OnePlus 3/3 T Oppo Find 7 Samsung Galaxy S5 (8 models) Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (two 2016 versions) Sony Xperia Xa2 and Xa2 Ultra Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Xiaomi Poco F1 Zuk Z1 Now more models are expected to be added to the above list but for now owners of the above-mentioned devices can upgrade to Android Poco F1 Zuk Z1 When downloading a custom Rom such as the LineageOs 16, make sure that all of your important data is backed up as the system partitions are formatted ensuring that all information stored on your computer is wiped away.
