Demonoid Gets Reboot By Old Staff MembersA new Demonoid has been developed by old staff members plugging a void that scammers have abused. The new platform is not a torrent tracker but simply a magnet link index for people to share connections with each other. The original Demonoid remains stagnant after its founder Deimos died in an August 2018 automobile accident. Demonoid is again on dnoid.to the death of the creator and owner of the original Demonoid nicknamed Deimos, one of the most famous BitTorrent trackers worldwide. As reported Deimos died in a car accident back in August 2018 and his laptop was the only way the staff could access backend and cloud backup servers on the platform. Not having this laptop there was nothing the moderators and staff of the Demonoid forum could do to keep file-sharing going and on February 17, 2019 they even lost ownership of the demonoid.pw domain. That said, there was no other way to keep the community alive than to take it another place. The new domain looks like the old site but for users to add links and help others in the community find what they are looking for, it is basically just a magnet index. There are no torrents on the new site, and there is no tracker operation on it either. Original platform users couldn’t be ported to the new one so everyone interested must now create a new account on dnoid.to. As one of the admins of the new platform (phaze1 G) said to TorrentFreak: “The point here is not to compete with the original Demonoid or to be above other public torrents. It’s just to keep a memory of Demonoid and his founder, Deimos, who has been well-known around old folks since 2003, and who has set really high standards for torrent communities. Demonoid have always had a special place in the hearts of people. Our way of saying ‘ thank you ‘ to him and keeping his legacy alive is to keep a memory of it without letting others ruin it by making copycats and phishing sites from it. “The cessation of the original Demonoid operation allowed scammers to take advantage of the situation and trick people into thinking they are visiting the continuation of the real platform on another domain. There have been numerous fake mirror sites “.onion” addresses a notorious “demonoid.to” and several iterations of the Demonoid name since 2014 and afterwards. The community tried hard to warn people about the dangers of downloading stuff from these portals through the original forums but the messages couldn’t reach a wide audience as expected. With the launch of a new “official” Demonoid scammer, managing to convince people who they claim to be will have a much harder job.
