Amazon Responds to Alexa Privacy Breach ControversyFigure 1 Image Courtesy of Slashgear A Portland family recently discovered that one of its Alexa devices had sent a private conversation to a saved contact. In the recent past, the event has led to massive outrage among internet users with many calling on Amazon for its weak privacy protection on Alexa apps. Amazon today released a statement explaining why the incident happened. Due to an incident involving one of the e-commerce company’s smart speakers, Amazon had internet users lashing out at Alexa smart speakers. A Portland family believed their Echo smart speaker was captured and sent to a friend for a private conversation. Despite Amazon’s smart speakers becoming more popular than ever smart speakers also raise concerns about privacy due to such incidents. .081.081 Figure 2 Image Courtesy of Amazon The news has appeared on the web today and Amazon has already responded to the customers worried about the incident. Amazon’s statement said the Echo system was awakened because of a voice command which was interpreted as “send a message.” Alexa replied with a question asking for the message recipient to answer the order. The background noise in the home was picked up by the Ai assistant as a contact name which led to a private conversation being sent to one of a family member’s employees. Amazon has promised to work to prevent these accidents in the future by making changes to Alexa’s voice-recognition code. The voice assistant receives constant updates via over – the-air patches and it’s possible that the Echo systems will receive updates to adjust how the Ai interprets background noise.
