After he was cut from the Canadian Football League’s squad Weathers signed with the BC Lions. He have played with the team a total of eighteen games. In 1974 he returned to Football. Carl Weathers played a minor role in the film Bucktown of his friend Arthur Marks in 1975. He played a major role in the movie Friday Foster the same year. Like the previous film his friend Arthur Mark directed and produced it. Since his appearance in the American sports drama film Rocky Carl Weathers gained popularity in 1976. The film, directed by John G. Avildsen, tells the story of a small time-club boxer Rocky Balboa, who gets a shot at the heavyweight world championship. Weathers played the role of an undisputed boxing champion Apollo Creed who fights Balboa to defend his World Championship. The film has been a huge commercial success and has won three Oscars. Since starring in a number of other films including Semi-Tough (1977) and The Bermuda Depths (1978), in 1979 he took over his role as Apollo Creed in Rocky II. The movie was a commercial success, and became one of the year’s highest grossing films. He continued to play Apollo Creed’s part in both Rocky III (1982) and Rocky IV (1985). Both the films did well financially and achieved immense worldwide popularity. He next appeared in a main role as Colonel Al Dillon in the sci-fi horror action film Predator.
