Eric Schaal More Posts November 14, 2019 And You Ever Excuse Me from BlacKkKlansmanCan? You knew the Irishman would get more of the same. You might not have been prepared for the hostile response to Scorsese and Robert De Niro’s work that starred and produced in the Netflix-backed picture, though. Vince Wade seethed in the Daily Beast about the “shaky narrative” of the film that could lead to “badly misinforming Americans.” In the article Wade states that author Dan Moldea (Hoffa Wars) “warned” De Niro not to make the film. “You’re being known” Moldea told De Niro quoting documents from law enforcement that don’t corroborate the story told in the film. But De Niro has sent Moldea after a testy exchange on his way.

De Niro felt happy with ‘ The Irishman ‘ telling Sheeran’s side of the story 2/2.1112 2/2.1112 Figure 1 Edith Bowman and Robert De Niro are speaking at the BFI London Film Festival on 13 October 2019. | Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images for BFI The Irishman follows Frank Sheeran’s tale of Jimmy Hoffa’s contract killer and close associate in the 1960s and 1970s. Sheeran told Brandt he killed the union leader after years of denying he had played a role in Hoffa’s disappearance. (Sheeran knew that he would die of cancer shortly after.) That early 2000 confession, including Sheeran’s account of how he got off the job, became a big story in I Heard You Paint Houses. Moldea confronted the film legend at an authors ‘ dinner in 2014 after hearing that De Niro was about to make The Irishman based on this story. “I told him ‘ Bob you are being conned ‘ in no uncertain terms,” Wade quotes Moldea saying in his article on Daily Beast. While De Niro said “couldn’t have been more beautiful” at first, Moldea said the conversation would become “hostile” once he got “violent” with De Niro. What’s more, the FBI case agent Hoffa said that he had “no evidence” that Sheeran killed him in the building. And there were other inaccuracies in Brandt’s novel. He quoted Sheeran saying the hitman had black hair when he worked with him. (It was “sandy-brown.”) Sheeran said a small airport in Michigan had also closed. (It’s still in operation.) Then there’s the main kicker: “Hoff’s blood wasn’t found in Sheeran’s room.” But that’s just where the “Sheeran’s lying” claim begins to fall down. The FBI did not get any tests from one of two blood samples collected at the murder house. So yes, the blood of Hoffa “wasn’t found there,” but his blood may very well have been. As for the rest, w
e must ask: Wouldn’t an accomplished hitman know how to trick law enforcement? As for Sheeran not knowing the color of a guy’s hair 25 years later — or whether an airport is still open halfway across the country — these seem like insignificant details. If somebody is able to prove that Sheeran has not killed Hoffa, they should do so and shame De Niro (among others). By then they have their own assumptions and hypotheses. As Moldea said to Wade himself, “Most people … just want to see a great movie and they’ll get it again.” That’s not going to be contested.
