The pair met during the filming of the Nicholas Sparks film The Last Song around 2009 and began dating while still on stage. Shortly after making their public debut as a couple they broke up briefly signaling the beginning of an on-again off-again trend which would characterize much of the next decade. Cyrus took to social media in early 2012 to dissipate reports of marriage and then, later that same year, the pair got really engaged. In 2013 they faced darker reports that the wedding was being called off. The fact that Cyrus has been seen several times without her ring has not helped the gossip. The engagement was called off in September and Cyrus referred to her youth as a key factor “she was just 19 when she said yes.” All Hemsworth and Cyrus appeared to move on but reports that the couple had reunited were circulating by 2015. Cyrus and Pataky were also seen hanging out.
