An oval is a geometric shape that looks like an elongated circle. Another name for an oval is “ellipse”. You may need to find the area of an oval in a middle school, high school, or college math class assignment. The area of an oval is the amount of space contained within the shape. You can calculate the area of an oval by following a simple mathematical formula.
Steps to follow:
1
Measure the length of the ellipse from “A” to “B” and divide by 2. This is known as “radius 1”.

2
Measure the oval width through its central point. The central point will be half the length, this length is between point “A ‘” and “B'”. Once the width is measured, divide this value by 2. This is known as “radius 2”.

3
Multiply half the width by half the length. For example, if the length is 10 centimeters and the width is 6 centimeters, you would multiply 5 by 3 to get 15 centimeters.

4
Multiply the answer in Step 3 by pi, which is 3.14. In this example, you would have to multiply 15 by 3.14 to get an area of 47.1 centimeters squared, which will be the area of the ellipse.
