Sainz: “The pace is promising”

Carlos Sainz ended up satisfied with the performance of his Ferrari on Austin. The two red cars were very competitive in the first session, occupying the fourth and fifth position with Leclerc and Sainz, respectively. Then, in FP2, the Madrilenian could not translate the good feelings into a good time due to the traffic he encountered on his launched lap. Despite this, he highlighted the improvement of the car between FP1 and FP2 due to the changes made in the settings and said he was “happy”. Of course, he knows that despite the fact that he could make a good classification this Saturday by standing up to the McLaren behind the two dominant teams, Carlos considers that they should be pending in improving the degradation of the tires, one of his weak points this course and that in Austin can affect them due to the high temperatures expected throughout the weekend.

“Today we have tried various setups and we have improved a bit between FP1 and FP2. I am generally happy with our Friday and the pace is promising, considering that on my fastest lap I had traffic in the third sector and not I was able to round off a lap that looked good, “commented the Ferrari from Madrid.

“Today the track temperature has been very high and obviously has influenced the long runs, in which the degradation in the soft compound has appeared early. That can complicate things for Sunday, so we will be vigilant,” he added in a statement through its website.
