It has happened to many of us that after painting our nails we have accidentally brushed our clothes and we have enamel stained. Or that while we are painting our nails, the nail polish accidentally falls on our pants, leaving us a horrible stain.

The most common way of removing nail polish stains from clothing it’s with acetone. First, if the stain is recent, remove the excess with a towel, if it is already dry, scrape off the excess enamel with a spatula or knife to remove as much as possible. Wet a cloth or cotton with a little acetone and wipe it in an inconspicuous place on the garment to make sure the acetone won’t damage your clothing.
If everything goes well, put a cloth under the stain and with the cloth soaked in acetone gently rub the stain until it disappears. Afterwards, wash the garment as usual. This trick is very useful for cotton and linen garments.

If the acetone is not enough and the nail polish stain continues, use bug spray, any of those you have at home. Scrape the stain or wipe off the excess with a towel, and apply the product to the nail polish stain.
Let it act for 3 minutes and scrub gently with a toothbrush making circular movements. Afterward, rinse the garment with warm water. If there are still traces of enamel, repeat the process until it is gone.

If when testing the acetone in an inconspicuous place we see that it loses color or is damaged, we will remove the nail polish stain with talcum powder. Sprinkle the nail polish stain with talcum powder and let it sit for a few hours to work.
You can do this trick before going to sleep and leave it overnight. After time, rub the stain with a toothbrush using gentle circular motions. Then wash the garment as normal.

For nail polish stains on silk and wool garments do not use the above tricks as they will damage your clothes. Gently scrape off excess nail polish or soak it up with a towel if the stain is recent. Then, place a cloth or rag under your clothing so that the stain is facing up. Take some cotton, wet it with ether and rub the stain gently.
If there are remains, moisten a cloth with 90ยบ alcohol and rub the stain. Then, soak the garment with warm water, special soap for this type of fabric and a tablespoon of ammonia for each liter of water.
