Gorka ‘Pato’ Reizabal, historic journalist for La Real, dies

Gorka Reizabal, a historical journalist who for decades followed the news of the Royal Society, has died today at 67 years of age, as a result of cancer, at the same time that the General Meeting of shareholders of the txuri urdin club was held, after months of fighting against disease. Jokin Aperribay, president of the txuri urdin club, had an emotional memory for Reizabal. The top royalist president informed the room before giving an account of the results of the vote on the death of the emblematic journalist. “He has followed La Real for many years and has been a great contribution. Rest in peace”. Reizabal passed away last night after months of battling the disease. He followed the txuri urdin club for years, performing his profession in different media.

After making his debut in El Noticiero de Zaragoza, he continued his career in the written press in El Diario Vasco, Egin, La Voz de España and Tribuna Vasca. Later he joined Radio San Sebastián de la Cadena Ser, after a brief experience on Radio Popular. He passed through the San Sebastian delegation of TVE-País Vasco, and through Euskal Telebista, from where he would return to Radio San Sebastián in 1995, where he remained until 2004.

TO Gorka Reizabal He always liked to call himself and be called Pato, which, more than a pseudonym, became his real name. Throughout his life he displayed a great sense of humor, especially based on puns. And he also knew how to find sharp and accurate titles for his articles and works. Probably this news of his goodbye, perhaps, somewhat premature, would have headed it by paraphrasing in a way the title of his beloved work dedicated to the heavenly txuriurdin elevator: “The Duck flew to heaven.”

In the game against Real Madrid last season, in May, ‘Duck‘, as the journalist was popularly known, he went to the Anoeta box where he received a tribute from the club, which gave him a shirt signed by the players of the squad.
