Depending on the size of the verses and their cadence, we can talk about one type of verse or another. In principle we find the minor art verses, which are the verses of two to eight syllables, as well as the verses of major art, which are those with nine or more syllables.

Minor art verses can be bisyllables (2 syllables), trisyllables (3 syllables), tetrasyllables (4 syllables), pentasyllables (5 syllables), hexasyllables (6 syllables), heptasyllables (7 syllables) and octosyllables (8 syllables).

Likewise, the verses of major art can be eneasyllables (9 syllables), decasyllables (10 syllables), hendecasyllables (11 syllables), dodecasyllables (12 syllables), tridecasyllable (13 syllables), alejandrino (14 syllables), pentadecasyllable (15 syllables) and octonary (16 syllables).

Verses according to their accentuation

It is obvious that in a poem accents are essential to mark the verse rhythm. Also, in a verse we can find several accentual dispositions. For example, there are trochaic verses, in which the accents fall on the odd syllables. We also have the iambic verses, in which the accents fall on even syllables. Finally, we would find the mixed verses, which as we can guess combines the previous two.
