The most common Athletics events

The history of the Athletics What Athletic discipline it can be as old as our own existence. Since the beginning of time, men already ran behind their prey trying to hunt them, and that one was more Quick, strong and with better aim, became the leader of the group. Since then, the trajectory of this sport International has continued to evolve, from the first Olympic Games at Olympia in 1222 BC to the present day, from a like we teach you what are the main athletics events of the s. XXI.

Speed tests or races

The races or speed tests are one of the most representative tests of athletics, and they consist of an individual / runner covers a predetermined distance in the shortest possible time. The runner stands in his street or lane (it is forbidden to invade the street of the rest of the athletes) and, after the shot that starts the competition, they are driven from the starting blocks to achieve the best mark among all the participants. The momentum must be so explosive that it is very important that the sprinter does a good warm-up exercise and trains his exit strategy.

The different varieties of speed tests include the 100, 200 and 400 dash meters.

Fences

As in speed events, the athlete’s goal is to complete the course in the shortest time possible, but this time they must jump ten hurdles during the race. In this type of exercise, it is very important, in addition to the speed, flexibility and coordination of the athlete.

There are the 110-meter hurdles races (male), where the hurdles reach 106.7 centimeters; the 100-meter hurdles (female), in which the hurdle measures 84 cm; and finally the 400-meter hurdles, which are run by both men and women, and which is the longest in this category.

Long distance and middle distance races

In the case of this type of test, the quality most demanded of its participants is resistance. Mid-distance races include the 800 and 1500 meter sprints, and the difference with respect to speed races is that, from a certain moment, there is a free street, that is, the runner can leave his lane and advance wherever he wants.

The long-distance races include distances of 5,000 and 10,000 meters, in addition to the Marathon, which consists of 42, 195 kilometers and is run outside the sports venue (on the road).

Relay races

It is the the only athletics event that is conducted by teams. In the two varieties, the 4×100 meters and the 4×400 meters, there are four runners who must pass the baton from one to the other, always running on the same street. Needless to say, among the qualities of these participants, apart from speed, is coordination.

Obstacle Races

The best known is that of the 3000 meters, and during this test, the runners, individually, will have to jump fences and overcome a pit with water.

March

The curiosity of this race is that, unlike in other speed tests, the runner cannot lift both feet off the ground at the same time, that is, you always have to have one foot on the ground. Hence, the strange hip movement that we observed during the competition. These are athletes with great endurance capacity and a sense of rhythm. The distances to be covered are 20 and 50 kilometers for men, and 20 kilometers for women.

High jump

From the objective of covering a distance in the shortest possible time, we move on to that of achieving the highest possible height. In this test, the jumper will have three attempts to exceed a horizontal bar or slat to the maximum height suspended on two vertical supports.

Pole vault

The athlete’s goal is to jump over a bar, located at a great height (about 5 meters), with the help of a pole. He starts from a baseline and, running towards the place where the bar is raised, he drives the pole into the ground and uses the momentum that this action gives him to overcome the obstacle.

Long jump and triple jump

In this case, the jumper will try to cover with your jump the maximum possible distance (distance, not height). To do this, he will gain momentum with a short run before jumping feet-first onto a dirt surface from the starting line. The jump is measured from that starting mark to the closest footprint that the athlete leaves in the sand with any part of his body, having 3 attempts to improve his mark.

In the case of the triple jump, the athlete’s goal is to cover the maximum possible distance with three consecutive jumps, so the jumper will need incredible leg strength to achieve standing momentum.

Bullet impulse and hammer, javelin and discus throws

These are the so-called strength tests, in which the pitcher will have to project the different objects to the farthest point of impact possible.
