How many weeks are there in a year
To know how many weeks there are in a year and learn how to calculate it, you must bear in mind that we call the time it takes the Earth to make a complete revolution of the Sun a year. This period takes place in 365 days which, in turn, are divided into 12 months of 30 or 31 days each. Every 4 years there is a variation in our calendar, in which one more day is added to the month of February to balance the chronological year with the tropical year.
But how many days does a leap year have? Given that the Earth actually takes 365,256 days to complete one revolution of the sun, the 0.25 extra points make the year composed of 366 days every 4 years. The weeks, meanwhile, are periods of 7 days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
Usually the weeks of the year made up of 365 belong to 52 weeks plus one day. On the other hand, for leap years we would talk about 52 weeks plus two days. However, this general rule may vary depending on some factors:
- Years that start on Monday have 52 weeks.
- Years beginning on a day other than Monday consist of 50 weeks.
Calculate weeks per year
To find out how many weeks a year will have, you must do a simple calculation: divide the number of days in the year by the number of days in a week. This results in 52.1 in a normal year (365/7) and 52.2 in a 366-day year (366/7).

What calendar marks our days
The calendar we follow and, therefore, marks our days is the so-called Gregorian calendar. Its origin dates back to 1582 when Pope Gregory XIII replaced the Julian calendar that was used since the time of Julius Caesar after the agreements at the Council of Trent.
Through this calendar it was intended to eliminate the gap produced since the first Council of Nicea, in the year 325, with which 10 days were accumulated since the establishment of the Julian calendar, which, although it marked the beginning of the year on January 1, granted a total of 365 days and 6 hours per year, which made leap years appear every 4 years, which included a day in February.
However, the Julian calendar had a margin of error of 11 minutes and 14 seconds, which caused the days to be erroneously interspersed, giving way to the lag in the calendar. In addition, it did not adjust correctly to the stations, since the remaining minutes caused the stations to move little by little over the months. Thus, Pope Gregory XIII decreed the suspension of the 10 days following October 4, which definitively eliminated the Julian calendar and the Gregorian calendar began.
Although today the Gregorian calendar is the calendar system par excellence at the global level, not all countries adopted it at the same time. It began in Catholic countries, such as Spain, Portugal or Italy, and little by little, other Christian countries were incorporated. In some countries they follow a different calendar, as is the case with Muslims, who follow the Islamic calendar.
