These layers cut throughout the length of the hair, together with these feminine curtain bangs, give it an incredible ‘ 80s vibe. This look works great with density on hair and a little wave to make it easier to style.
A Beautiful Shoulder Length Shag
Shaggy A-line Bob
Shag
The A-line bob is made for everybody. Having messy and shaggy layers for an extra texture and dimension is one way to fashion it. Purple Choppy Shag with Deep Side Part
One of the bravest things you could do would be a dope textured medium cut painted with a lustrous purple shade! Although the color is high maintenance, this super trendy look does not need much styling afterwards when it comes to shower treatment. A simple deep part of the side plus an allled look would be beautiful.
The easiest thing you can get is a fresh texture cut on glossed natural hair if you want a big change not just in your look, but also in your lifestyle! Super easy at home to maintain and style!
Thin medium hair shag

The thick heavy fringe and the thickness on the top hair create an illusion of weight throughout the hair style ideal for fine and thin skin. This super textured cut is a style that women with busy lives will love to get up and go.
Shag Curly
How are you going to describe this look? With a retro twist, this look is organic. My absolute favorite thing about it is how it removes the fringe and looks like it runs through its fingers and stepped out into a warm day ready for anything. The suggestions that someone feels about it? Be open to wearing fringe longer and don’t overthrow the cut style. Just send the hair a few waves in random parts off the inside using a flat iron in a rocking motion. If the bangs are too realistic and the body and texture are too flat, it takes away from the 70’s look.
QA with Owner / Hairstylist How would you characterize this look? There’s a classic retro feel to this look. We loved the bob of the 90s because with a grungy textured twist it was classic. I took a picture of Winona Ryder in the nineties. The advice that someone thinks about it? This style is much more casual and doesn’t take much effort, so it’s good for customers who like a wash and go look, but you can really play the texture on weekends. For help create the perfect textured waves, you’ll want a good dry shampoo texture spray and a 1-inch wand or flat iron.
TIGI Creative Director in Dallas TX Medium Shaggy Bob
QA How would you describe this look? This is an undercut bob textured. The aim was to eliminate weight below the occipital bone in order to promote perimeter movement. I developed this textured bob first by setting the length then using a razor to perform soft layers and customization techniques. Having a natural feeling and movement is perfect for the razor. I also gave the model a fringe because I wanted to create a frame around her lovely eyes. The advice that someone thinks about it? First of all, I think it’s important to speak to your stylist. If a client needs a good hair length, the undercut is not a good fit. Without the undercut part, you can build the same haircut. Furthermore, if the surface is too frizzy, I wouldn’t use the razor to do it and then pick scissors. Goods are an essential part of maintaining the appearance. Use something that can stabilize the hair and detach at the ends, such as dry shampoo styling cream leave-in conditioners. For the face shape: I recommend avoiding the fringe as this would make the face even smaller for an aclient with a really small face or small forehead. With the break, other shapes are going really well. The suggestions that someone feels about it? A shag haircut looks best for medium to fine thickness wavy to curly hair. It is a haircut that is simple and low in maintenance. Typically, I suggest mousse or cream gel to air dry or spray hair which blends with the natural texture.

QA with Master Stylist Must-Try Shag for Thin Hair How would you describe this look? This look is a choppy fringe textured shag. To highlight the feel of the customer, the look was achieved with both shear and straight razor. Of course, what I like most about the cut is the edge. It’s fun, and when the hair is pulled away from the face, it has a striking look. The suggestions that someone feels about it?
Shaggy Bob Haircut
QA with Owner / Stylist This Rose Quartz allled bob is a favorite because its smooth feeling and undone texture enhances the cool factor for short bob length cutting. The eye will capture the blushing hue and it’s light enough for anyone to wear it. I used my Sam Villa 7 to make this cut? Dry Cutting Shears for cutting through the hair and making the texture seen here. So I did a lazy wrap around the wand using the Sam Villa 2-in-1 Marcel Iron and Wand to get a loose undone wave to the head. Finished it off for classification and keep with Redken Wax Blast 10. Using Redken Lightner Up to 7 to pre-light the skin, the color was achieved. Then it was colored by Pravana’s hair color of Rose Quartz. The suggestions that someone feels about it? This works great for any shape of the face depending on where the hair is separated and where the layers are put. The color is strongly preserved and fades quicker than darker shades, so be sure to use a professional shampoo and conditioner brand.

QA with Senior Stylist / Cutting Specialist How would you characterize this look? With Tropical Sherbet Color vibes, a new 70’s Shag-Lob. Her hair didn’t have the length to go full shag, but the lob (longer in front of her back) helped to create the fullness of her lack of fine hair while still giving her a shag-like look. The texture and movement are my favorite thing about this hairstyle it really suits the amazing hair color (by Chelsea Knight-King) so well! My best beauty advice would be to use texture and volume items, but not so strong that it slows down your hair. I love the Sugar Spray No. 4 practically. Any mousse or thickening spray (R+Co Chiffon or Number 4 Styling Foam) blown out for finer hair with a round brush or thicker hair brush from Mason Pearson is perfect. This haircut is either twisted or flat super flexible!

QA and Redken Artist / Educator Stylist How would you describe this look? The suggestions that someone feels about it? This is a girl look that needs little maintenance but wants fashion. The color that has sunked is a color that needs only to be retouched every three or four months. The cut is perfect for the form of a round head. Only blow dry using a vent brush to style this look and position it in a few loose waves. The best way to achieve a messy wave is by curling only the center and straightening the ends. A flat iron is sometimes used to curl in the middle to straighten the ends for a more messy textured effect. To give the hair texture and shine, I use Redken’s Powder Gripcocktailed with Redken’s Diamond Oil. Fill it with Redken’s Triple Take 32 hairspray and voila you’ve got a messy sunked bob textured!
QA to the Director of Education How would you characterize this look? So the best way to describe this look is because it’s the classic shag’s more modern version. My favorite thing about this haircut is that on any face shape and any gender it’s pretty universally attractive.

Hairstylist / Barber / Colorist Instagram QA How would you characterize this look? This is amessy shag, which has long but very thin layers. The TEXTURE is my favorite thing about the feel! This look was really fun to cut using a concave layering technique and then re-enter with a razor to extract even more weight and identify bits. This look works best on average for exceptionally naturally wavy hair thick hair densities. My client’s hair is very dense so she looked for a lot of weight removal. If the hair of the client is very fine, it can produce a stringy look in the distance. We always want to retain consistency in the length of fine hair. I built a flat iron wavy texture here to improve the color and slice. This cut, however, holds up well, particularly on naturally wavy hair, without heat styling. I recommend anything with a small volume and texture for items. My personal favorites right now are Floyd’s 99 Texture Powder, a non-aerosol dry shampoo with a hold for larger volume, as well as IGK Beach Club texture spray with a little hold for gentle volume.
Modern-DayMid-Length Shag Cut
QA to Salon Manager / Colorist How would you characterize this look? The cut is a contemporary beach look with shag-like textured layers and a textured fringe. With some disconnection in the front, the length itself is slightly cut from short to long, leaving the two front corners looking longer. The color is a beigey neutral blonde accomplished by babylights and balayage thus retaining proportions with a natural rooted look. My favorite thing about this look is how organic the color looks and how undone / tousled or polished the cut can be worn and still on the trend. The suggestions that someone feels about it?How are you going to describe this look? I’d describe this look as fuzzy, moving layers. My favorite thing about this look and the wearability of all shags. We grow out still looking beautiful and they also give people the extra volume they are always looking for in the crown and around their head. This client was the sweetest she said, I never thought my hair was able to do this. Shags are perfect for all styles of eyes. I just adjust the layer length and fringe to the customer’s most flattering.
Effortless Textured Haircut Shag
Instagram QA with Stylist This look is all about stylish texture without any effort. The longer shaggy fringe has higher commitment wearability for low maintenance, which is great for anyone who wants to dabble with a fringe. This is a gentle take on the shag with a solid perimeter and loose shaggy layers of surface and a split frame of head. The suggestions that someone feels about it? The modern shag is perfect for those who have grown a bob but want to change the shape as it keeps growing for a long time. Always good for those who want a medium length but have a completely different and flexible form. This cut works as it is an effortless-looking style for any surface. You can change the fringe to be more or even more influenced by Brigitte Bardot in this image. A decent salt spray (R+Co Sail is my new go-to) and a great finishing texture spray (R+Co Badlands or ORIBE Dry Texture Spray) would be the best products for this look to build style movement. Classic Brown Chocolate Shag
with Stylist Instagram QA How would you describe this look? It’s super versatile, my favorite thing about this look. The hair of my client is very thick and this cut makes it possible for her to shift and feel airy. The suggestions that someone feels about it? This shag look is pure curled verses that are very different. I feel like it can be adjusted for different shapes of the head, so there’s really nobody who can’t get that cut. It’s a little hard to put all the face framing layers in a ponytail, so customers who need their hair out of their eyes may not want to go that shaggy. Naturally, the messy curls are some work to do, but the pros of this cut are just curling the top layers. Generally the bottom layers are too short to ever be seen. Just finish with some root texture spray and everything else!
This style is ideal for fine hair with shorter layers looking for volume. You could wear this cut as a wash and wear it or pick it out using the material like I did here. I used the brilliant texture of Lanza Healing Hair Plumper and Lanza Healing. For some noisy waves, all the layers would be perfect too!
Bangs Black Shag
Instagram How would you characterize this look and what is your favorite? This look would be described as a modern shag with a medium length texture and a heavy framing fringe. The framing of my eyes is my dream! What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? Using Full Effect texture spray from Eufora for body and Sea Spritz from Eufora for a piecey finish. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? This look will work for fine or thick styles of hair as long as your stylist can take off the weight at the ends or add volume around the crown where it is required. Through drawing attention to the cheekbones, it fits well with oblong or heart-shaped eyes.
Oval Face Shag
Instagram How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite? I’d describe this look as stylish and sexy, effortless. I love this cut preserves the hair length, but it still has a slice of edginess. It sounds a little defiant, but in a nice way. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? To build this look, I used all IGK products. I just started using this tag recently and I love it all! I started by cleaning the hair with a shampoo + conditioner volume of 30000 feet. Before the blow dry, I added a quarter-sized amount of IGK’s Blow Out Balm Car Service to the crown’s memory and weight. The material is extremely workable and does not make the hair feel rigid or textured over. Except in the crown region where I used a big round brush to pump up the volume and give some bounce, I blow dried the hair with a flat comb. I curled the hair with a 1 1/4-inch curling iron that begins one inch from the roots and leaves the last inch of ends. The hair from the front of the ear was curled away from the face and in alternating directions the rest of the hair was curled. It is imperative to add texture and curl to this look as it leaves it looking fresh and not too shaglike in the 70s. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? In this cut, the layering adds a softness that works well on all shapes of the face. The cutting length shown here is perfect for the shape of a round or oval head. I would suggest making the cut a little shorter for someone with a longer face shape. The great thing about this shaggy look is that it’s meant to look relaxed and effortless so it’s ideal for women with wavy / curly hair if they want to dry air and go or the straight-hair gal that doesn’t mind rough drying and adding a little curling iron bend and texture. Layering the hair removes weight so for someone with fine hair, I wouldn’t recommend this cut.
What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? To replicate this look, start with Redken’s Beach Envy Volume Texturizing shampoo and conditioner. Apply the Color Fanatic of Pureology to the hair while dampening and shielding it from heat. Dress the fringe first as desired and blow dry the hair using a large round brush for maximum volume in the crown area. Lightly spray Redken’s Style Waves on the hair once it is blow dried to help create texture when styling. Use a 1 1/2-inch curling iron to add waves in the hair alternating directions in each section and leave the ends of the hair out. Once the hair is curled, the fingers run through the waves to create a messy look at the bedhead. Note that this should look simple and undone! Using Redken’s Fashion Work 12 hairspray to finish the look for a light lock. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? Hot tip: Someone in their hair with a lot of dimensional colors would love this textured layering. It gives everyone a unique look!
Long Shag Cut with Rooted Blonde
Long Shag Cut with Rooted Blonde
Instagram How are you going to describe this look and what is your favorite? This look I’d describe as a shaggy rooted blonde. I love keeping some depth in a bright blonde and doing a little shadow root is a go-to for me. Bangs would have to be my favorite thing about this look. They tie this edgy shag beautifully together. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? I prescribe a spray of texture and/or a pomade of matt. The products I used to design this look in particular were the Bedroom. Hair texture spray from Kevin Murphy and the pomade from Nightrider. For anyone who wants to have some fun with their hair or likes an edgier look, I suggest this theme. I’d also recommend this style to someone with medium to thick hair as taking heavy parts for bangs / shorter layers wouldn’t create a problem. I always think that hot blonde tones look fantastic with any skin tone as far as the color goes as long as you can accept those darker roots.
Straight Hair Framing Shag
QA with Hairstylist How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite? The shag is the chameleon of cuts which move from work to play effortlessly while being flattering uniformly. This haircut with low maintenance always looks good. The shag is designed to reflect the texture of natural hair. > Goertz Hair Braunschweig Germany This shag style has shorter layers in the front and not as short in the back. Short Wavy Copper Red
Short Hair Pixie Metallic Pixie
QA Hair Painter / Makeup Artist / Tape In Extensions Specialist I really love my pixies girls! For short wavy hair, pixies are perfect. I love how rich the color with smoky metallics makes her cut and her light brown eye color really accentuate. I used 8ss+8vm Demi of Guy Tang Mydentity. What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? To maintain such a color and wavy look, I should start with a good shampoo of color care (sulfate and alcohol-free) every day to avoid washing. I applied a drop of Kenra Curl Cream on damp hair to create her waves and round brushed her locks with a 1-inch Olivia Garden brush to give her a soft curl. You can take a flat iron and manipulate one-inch pieces spinning the iron to produce a soft curl and rotate each part if you’ve got very stubborn straight hair. I took Lanza Healing Hair Care Beach Spray once all twisted and scrunched her waves with my fingertips to tear the hair apart. The key for the perfect waves is to know that the technique is ok to be imperfect. You want a perfectly messy look for your mane. If it’s a wet day, with Redken’s Wax Blast you can finish the look off. This adds more grit and leaves a satin-matte finish to the unfinished surface. For someone with a square or elongated face shape, this style is perfect. In particular, this style is perfect for my ladies who are on the go all the time. Only scrunch and spray to create the wavy look and you’ve got a great style to last until the next day!
Chin-Length Bob Waves
How are you going to describe this look and what is your favorite? Bobs will definitely fit anybody when it comes to short wavy hairstyles. I’d describe this look as a bob with a lower maintenance. It’s so flexible, my favorite thing about it. It’s not a style that needs to be rounded to a T to lie beautifully when wearing flat. It won’t take more than about 15 minutes to wear it curly. Because the back is shorter, it eliminates the boring aspects of your hair styling. What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? First and foremost, the items I recommend for this look are heat-protective. I always start with my dry spray from Kenra Blow. It speeds up drying time while maintaining the hair’s dignity. To blow dry for 45 minutes, hardly anyone has the time or patience! While the hair is still wet, I always spray a little of Kenra’s Boosting Spray all over the top and Kenra’s Texturizing Mist all over the ends. I sprayed a minimum amount of Kenras Dry Texture Spray after getting it all blow dried and smoothed out and used a wand to create this look. The wand seems to always produce curls that stay for a couple of extra days. Eventually, with my fingertips, I break up the curls a little bit. Messy’s enjoying it so much! I set it all with Kenra’s Working Spray because it’s lightweight and it’s not going to weigh the hair down.
QA Hairstylist / Blonde Specialist / Owner How do you explain this look and what is your favorite? I’d describe this look as a pixie cut textured. His flexibility is my favorite thing about it. So many different ways you can style it, like incorporating all these waves! What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? For someone who wants to try short wavy hair, this look is great. With the length through the front, it’s still really feminine and it fits with almost every face shape. This look needs some styling, so it’s not ideal for someone who just likes washing and wearing. Based on your natural hair texture, it will need some mild blowdrying and probably warm styling equipment.
Textured A-Line Bob Curls
