30 Really Short Haircuts for

QA with Amanda Sarah Stylist style maker in Portland New Vintage Beauty Lounge or How would you describe this look? This is a cropped style razor cut – not quite a pixie as it has a smoother outline that is longer. I love this shape because it offers ease of styling and is still flexible enough to push back part or increase curl length. Any advice that someone thinks about it? This look is perfect for someone with fine curls (or waves) looking for more definition from their natural texture. Styling is as simple as layering your favorite salt spray and a texture-appropriate curl cream to suit your unique curl pattern of hand drying with diffuse air scrunching finger coiling and molding it to suit your appearance. Signature Pixie

QA with designer Andrea Aikens Hairstylist @ Charlotte Nc Theory Salon How would you describe this look? The best part was to give her a personalized look – to work with what color she had and to have fun with it. My client here is my boss and mentor as well, so it was also a great learning experience. Any advice that someone thinks about it? If you’re willing to chop it out! It’s important to consult with your stylist. Be mindful that you’re going to have to cut it more often to preserve your new look. Pixies are versatile meaning that anyone can have it just takes for each person the right cut style. You can enjoy low maintenance styling or really get into your style with a blow dryer and Denman brush working it in all volume and movement directions, depending on the desired look. Your best friend will be a workable styling paste. I like using a dry texturizer for a messy / undone look. Davines Finishing Gum is my go-to paste. This describes texture as lightweight with a medium hold so that without any sticky or greasy residue it is possible to create your own style.

Empowering Round Layers

QA with Minna Sarianna Style Creator Vanced Hairdesigner @ Qtime Hair Design in Helsinki Finland I would describe this look as a warm soft and very feminine look that empowers the woman wearing it. I love how much more the warmer and lighter color in my model’s hair complements her skin tone than the dull brown tobacco we began with. My model also has an amazing silhouette and it really elongates her neck by creating a short barbered look and bringing out the oval shape of her face. Any advice that someone thinks about it? For a busy and carefree lifestyle, this look is perfect. The round layering gives you a very versatile, head-hugging soft look. All you really need is a good textured wax smoothing cream or serum and you’re ready to go. My model has curly hair but it’s just as easy to create this look with straight hair. A short round layered look can be pulled off by most of us. You can customize this look to your taste by changing the length of the sideburns and top / front area and bring out your facial features even more. Life for long hair is too short. My favorite thing about this pixie is how it emphasizes the features of my client. She has a very balanced face shape so that her jawline and cheekbones are shown off by the cut. I love a great pixie which really opens up and allows you to enjoy the appearance of the person! I also like how you can wear this a little bit like a very soft natural look or spice stuff and separate it with a product. Any advice that someone thinks about it? The great thing about a pixie is that your styling time will be significantly reduced. For someone struggling with managing time and style, it’s a great option. I recommend blowing drying when styling to help with direction and movement. D some texture or cream styling such as Locked Grit Transforming Cream. It provides excellent shine and easy handling. You’re going to want to make sure you’re using a product that’s going to have a medium to heavy shine throughout the day. It is very imperative to pay attention to the face shape when deciding on a pixie cut. This is critical to showing off or softening a feature. Make sure that you choose a good cut for your end goal as well. Would you like a soft look or something more powerful? Think of women as opposed to men! Just screaming confidence is a pixie cut. Wear it and see it as your own!

Ageless Effortless

How does this look describe you? I’d describe it as an effortless chic look. This is one of those cuts that can easily be made with the girls from work to night. This cut is also old-fashioned and works with fine to medium texture. It is very low maintenance and this pixie style looks good on any face shape because it has a smoother finish due to the razor edge. I would give the front a more complete fringe to slim the face for my customers who have a rounder face shape. The flexibility is my favorite thing about this slice. You may wear it sleekly or spike it. Any advice that someone thinks about it? For all textures, this is a great style. It’s great for women on the go, but they want a style that’s outstanding. Make sure that every three weeks you keep up with your haircut. All the hair you need on fine hair is a styling of pomade and finger.

Pixie Cut

How do you explain this look? This is a choppy pixie style with razor shears and shears mixing. We wanted movement inside the hair regardless of the angle from which we looked. Using a matte product like a sea salt spray or creating defined pieces throughout the hair using a product like styling paste, we could achieve a soft framing fringe with staggered bangs. I love the possibilities to make this cut the movement and the sheer choppiness differently. The suggestions that someone feels about it? This is a great look to concentrate a sea salt spray or dry shampoo paste R+Co Badlands close to the scalp and texture with fingers for a slightly voluminous, soft texture. You could use styling paste and your fingers to split the hair focusing on the fringe and top for extra pieces to pop up for a more choppy appeal. This is also a cut that can be used with pomade to make a slick pixie. This model has fine hair, so the first option is what she’s going to wear more, but the second one can be a bold alternative and perhaps the third one just for fun.I’d describe it as professional, but fun! My favorite thing about this cut is how different it looks for everyone! You can also make it look different from day to day in many ways. Any advice that someone thinks about it? My advice would be to go for it for someone to consider this look. Only once do you live! It doesn’t take a lot of styling so for everyone it’s perfect. Just a simple messy blowdry and some hair control pomade is everything you need! Modern Disconnected Pixie

QA with Mahri Jones Owner style at Parlor Salon Va How would you describe this look? I think my favorite aspect of these types of cuts is that I’m cutting the style into place, whereas most of the time you get a haircut you’ve got to style. I always advise my clients that they can either cut their hair in place or style it in place. Most of my women’s short hair love to have it cut in place. They love that concept very much. The suggestions that someone feels about it? First, embrace your face for sure. Know who you really are. I’m going to her hairline all the way because we want to emphasize that. In fact, the hairline is my guide. To get used to it, I recommend to start with a longer version of this. If it feels a few inches too short then you know it will be too short for you. There is really no need for styling beyond a light leave-in conditioner after washing (I use Unite 7 Seconds) and a texture paste (I use Unite’s Conundrum). This customer works with pencil skirts and this cut in a prestigious private university and rocks glasses. It can be as edgy or classic as you like.

QA with Lael Ann-Marie Owner in style @ BB Coiffure in Del Mar Ca How would you describe this look? With a bit of edge, this look is a traditional pixie. The cropping in the nape and the texture is what makes it a bit edgy. It has been adapted to its unique bone structure with hair texture and. These things are particularly important when cutting short hair pixies. The suggestions that someone feels about it? Considering this look, I would recommend a client to do the homework first and find a stylist who knows the concept of suitability. For everyone, there’s a perfect short haircut and the trick to it looks great on you is to adapt it to your unique bone structure and texture features. I would also recommend that you discuss options with your stylist on an in-person basis. Make sure you bring with you pictures of inspiration! You might love this exact look, but you might not have the same bone structure, etc. Your stylist will be able to evaluate your lifestyle maintenance routine and styling requirements for your hair to help you choose the right cut for you. Most of the short hair is not washing and going, but minimal styling is required due to the length. Make sure you have a minimum of 10-20 minutes to spend on styling. When making the pixie plunge, all of this should be taken into account. She has very thick hair with a ton of body in this client’s case that can be slightly frizzy. I washed the hair with Davines Oi All in One Milk and then roughed it with a flat brush before using a flat iron to smooth the frizz slightly. I then used a pomade light hold to show the texture and give it a more piece-like feel. I used her natural body to allure the hair with my hands to support the style. This offers her flexibility and growing styling choices by leaving her with a bit of length on top. This makes it easier to spend 20 minutes on her hair for those second and third-day looks or days.Any advice that someone thinks about it? For anyone with fine straight hair, I think this is a great look. That’s what makes the styling so easy! All it takes is a good textured material. I’ve used Matte Paste from O’Doud. This cut and style look great on the shapes of the oval and face of the heart. If you feel like some winged eyeliner and red lips complete the set totally!

Versatile Edge

QA with Kanetra Jones Hairstylist / Cosmetologist @ Precise Cuts Barber Beauty Salon in Atlanta Ga How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite? From color to cut, this look is very edgy and trendy. It can also be flexible as spikey or flat can be worn on the cut. We all love trendy and flexible in today’s society! I think the versatility is my favorite thing about this look. I definitely recommend that you have a daily stylist to handle your hair because of the color first. My go – to item at home would be a foam wrap to finish the look after drying with a flattened sleek look along with an oil or curl wax. I recommend the Nairobi Foam Wrap, but when it comes to curling wax, they get the job done pretty much. This is a chic short look so I’d definitely say to use your usual stylist or barber for cutting. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? Limiting this style to a specific face shape would be irrelevant to me, but I’m going to say that lifestyle is definitely a factor in choosing this look. If you’ve got an on – the-go lifestyle, this look can be very simple when maintenance (i.e. cut and color) is finished so all you’d have to do is mold at night and tie with a scarf. You’d just fingerstyle flat or spikey in the morning whatever you prefer. Classic Elegance With an Edge

QA Style Camilla Dobbie Hairstylist @ Civello South Granville in Vancouver Bc How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it? My favorite things about this look are how the color makes her eyes pop and how the fringe is heavily textured to softly frame her bone structure and complement it. It’s a fantastic wash and go look as well, so it’s ideal for a busy or healthy lifestyle. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? Items for this look can be kept to a minimum. A light leave-in conditioner and a shaping wax cream or pomade to finish the style are all you need for your daily shampoo and conditioner. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? This look is ideal for a confident guest with a medium density of fine to medium hair texture and a straight to wavy look. Guests with fine to medium curly hair can rock this too, leaving it slightly longer and less textured to avoid frizz and shrinkage.Any advice that someone thinks about it? For anyone with fine straight hair, I think this is a great look. That’s what makes the styling so easy! All it takes is a good textured material. I’ve used Matte Paste from O’Doud. It is ideal for removing heavy hair with a focus on the neck and facial characteristics of the shoulders. I love the purple color because it really makes the cut pop and gives an element of individuality to the whole look. What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? I recommend Oribe Rough Luxury Soft Molding Paste for shine definition and touchable hold in order to help maintain this style at home. I recommend washing hair in color in cold water only and using a color-depositing shampoo such as Viral Extreme Purple Colorwash to preserve color between services. What kind of customer would you recommend this look for?

Simple Pixie

I would describe this look as a simple pixie. There’s nothing complex about it. My favorite thing about this cut, however, is the detail and intricate attention to the small details that make the style the hairline in particular. A thin, textured fringe around the entire hairline makes it look very feminine. What products do you recommend for this look to be maintained and recreated? To maintain this style, the products I recommend would be a light shampoo and conditioner. I used the All Soft shampoo and conditioner from Redken. For Redken’s 03 Water Wax, you could fashion a wet look or air dry and style for a more natural look for Redken’s 06 Rewind. I styled this down here with a fringe, but with 06 Rewind it makes for a very elegant look if you air dry and style it up and back. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? Short cuts always require minimal daily effort, but they need to be cut more often. A specific mine guest has very fine hair of medium density, ideal for this cut. Even though fine hair is preferable, it would still fit on someone with a light wave and medium density. As far as face shape goes oblong fits with most designs as well as with this cut / style, a heart or diamond shape works.

Not Your Average Pixie Cut

QA with Cara Mio Robinson Hairdresser Style Creator @ Fruition Hair Brisbane in Brisbane Australia How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite? This look is definitely a pixie’s edgier variation because it has male and female elements in it. It has a fast clipper fade through the back and sides, and as a pixie cut should be, the top is light and textured. My favorite thing about this look is not the typical cut of your pixie! What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated?

QA with Stevie Cook Hairstylist design designer @ Bella Gia Salon Day Spa in San Diego Ca How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it? This look is feminine, very gentle and seemingly low maintenance. What items would you suggest for this look to be preserved and recreated? Choose a shampoo / conditioner to moisturize and treat your hair. I love the hydration of MoroccanOil. I slightly blowed her hair for this client and worked in Brazilian Blowout’s Acai Flexible Molding Clay Wax to control frizz and pick up her curls. What kind of customer do you suggest this look for? The best thing about a pixie cut is that you can really flex your artistic power as a stylist by customizing it for any customer regardless of texture or face shape.
