ShowBox No Longer Available Facing Numerous Ongoing Legal Issues ByBill Toulas-December 4, 2018 “3/3.1122.png” Both ShowBox and MovieBox apps are now offline following a lawsuit last week revealing their ownership of the hosting. There’s a cloud of uncertainty about what’s going on shrouding ShowBox since no official closure announcements have been made. Thousands of users are hoping that it is only a process of bug fixing or a temporary downtime until new hosting space is set up. The ShowBox servers are down and people trying to use the app get an error message about the connection. As is often the case with services operating within shady law areas no one knows when they are down for good or not. Showbox is a popular Android media streamer that allows users to stream Netflix content shows, and even peer-to-peer torrented movies. Since ShowBox only streamed this content to its users and did not allow any downloading activity to take place, if you prefer, it was supposed to be operating legally or not illegally. Despite this uncertainty the law film and television show producers have repeatedly submitted their complaints on iOS MovieBox to the authorities about ShowBox and its sibling. You see both of these apps have enjoyed tremendous popularity on their respective platforms, and the damage to media producers has been more than significant. Only last week a coalition of film studios filed lawsuits against specific websites hosting the files for ShowBox and MovieBox, resulting in the handing over of Cloudflare and Godaddy’s ownership details. With the situation taking this turn of events the owners of the hosting website have no other option than to reach a settlement whose terms remained private. What was instead advertised was the following warning message on the site to their visitors: “Show Box is NOT a legitimate software platform for viewing copyright-protected films. If you use ShowBoxApp to view copyrighted movies, your IP address and viewing history may be visible to the movie studios. Movie studios are cracking down on illegal downloads and lodging lawsuits against ShowBox app users. The film studios are also pursuing websites which promote and/or distribute ShowBox for the promotion of illegal activity. The trouble is not worth it! “From the above it is evident that ShowBox has been under enormous legal pressure lately so the chances of this situation being an unannounced bug fixing frenzy are slim to none. Last week, MovieBox stopped working and now ShowBox shutdown comes on. Many claim that the same person or team of people are behind both apps anyway so it was expected that this development would be. Is the team on a search for new websites to host infrastructure and content? Probably. That’s how the similar streaming app ‘ Popcorn Time ‘ has managed for many years to elude seizure. Under all circumstances, and until the streaming law becomes clear, users should protect themselves behind a VPN, or remain completely out of the process.
