Roger Milla – Biography of Roger Milla

The soccer player Roger Milla was born in the town of Yaondé, in Cameroon, on May 20, 1952. His demarcation was mid-range, although he had enough freedom to play in any position on the pitch.

The player started playing soccer at a very young age, specifically at the age of 12, an unusual event in his country of origin.

The first club in which he began to play was at Ben el Eclair, starting in the juvenile category, until 1966.

From that moment on, Milla began to play for the most important clubs in his country, such as the Léopard de Douala.

The player begins to show his great qualities as a footballer and is closely watched by many clubs in Europe, especially French.

The Cameroon team makes him wear the shirt of his country, doing it on a large number of occasions.

In 1977, he was signed by Valenciennes for 2 seasons, where, despite not scoring many goals, he stands out for his creative talent and his status as a striker.

In that same decade and until the end of the next, the forward was signed by various French clubs, such as Monaco, Bastia or Montpellier HSC, the latter team where he decided to “hang up his boots”, in 1989, when he counted with 37 years.

Despite having retired from soccer, Milla was called up again to play the United States World Cup in 1994, when the player was already 42 years old. This decision brought a lot of controversy in Cameroon, but even so Milla played this World Cup.

Within Milla’s record are 2 African Cups, 1 Cameroon League, 1 Cameroon Cup, 2 African Cup Winners’ Cup, 2 French Cups and 1 Ligue 2.

Shortly after his retirement, the player held the position of administrative director of the Cameroon team, as well as various positions in the Ministry of Sports of his country. On an individual basis, Milla has been awarded the Africa Top Scorer Trophy, 3 Trophies for the best African player and the distinction of being the best African player in history.

Currently Roger Milla is an ambassador for UNICEF.
