Facebook F8 2018 Developer ConferenceByNitish Singh-May 1 2018.852 It is scheduled for 10 a.m. Facebook F8 2018. On 1 May Paunet is currently the Vice President of Product Management at Untangle, a company providing comprehensive network security for small and medium-sized enterprises. She previously served as Product Vp at Gfi Technology Vp of Product Design at Kerio Technologies and worked at Cisco Systems across various jobs. Heather Paunet addresses the work of Untangle staying safe online in an interview with TechNadu the biggest threats we face and gives advice to other ladies who might be threatened by the tech industry. TechNadu: Giving us first a few details about the products Untangle has on the market aiming to better help secure networks. What is good about your product? Heather Paunet: Untangle has a suite of products designed to keep the systems and data internally safe and secure in a organization. Ng Firewall is our flagship product, offering a streamlined approach to network security that allows customers to choose from a variety of applications based on their network requirements and budgets. For cloud-deployed business applications, we give our customers security visibility and control over their network at their network edge or in the cloud. We are focusing on building small to medium enterprise goods. With a robust cost-effective network security solution, we make our solutions so easy to use that companies with minimal experience can still get up and running quickly and easily with. TechNadu: You have solutions for a wide array of industries. Where do most of your customers come from and what do their biggest problems seem to be that had them seek you out? Heather Paunet: Untangle represents the under-enterprise market in every industry. One place we are doing especially well is in the vertical of education. Students who access the internet are vulnerable to both inappropriate and malicious content. Schools and universities need to be able to protect students from accessing unsafe internet content that could inoperatively make a student computer or the school network. Untangle Ng Firewall can be conveniently configured to comply with a given institution’s specific appropriate access policies shielding networked devices from attacks. When doing schoolwork, it is so easy to access knowledge that it is easy for students to get distracted. Without knowing it students can play games or read content online when away from the hours. Untangle Ng Firewall will enforce rules so that recreational activities like YouTube and Facebook are available only outside regular school hours. Schools may also need to maintain compliance with certain standards in order to receive funding or continue operation. Untangle encourages reporting on all network activities and showing compliance through detailed reports. TechNadu: You have long been working in the field of cybersec. How have these last few years changed things? What are some good things and a few bad things that you see happen? Cyber attacks now make the news more frequent, raising awareness of how important it is to protect the network of a company. This is a good thing because recognition causes businesses to make it part of their plan to enforce security measures. This is a bad thing as attacks on cybersecurity are becoming more complex and sophisticated, making companies even more vulnerable. Information sent over the internet is being encrypted more frequently. This is a good thing, as it is easier to keep the information flowing through the internet confidential and to conceal sensitive data exchanged in messages or through interactions with webpages. This is a bad thing as it is also easier for hackers to mask the malicious activity with which they attempt to do harm, making it harder to detect and block these types of activity. TechNadu: What do you think is the biggest threat to the safety of people nowadays? Are we still on or have we progressed beyond ransomware? Heather Paunet: Ransomware still poses one of the greatest threats. The Ransomware is still developing itself. Attacks are becoming more complex and more stealthy than ever and still have devastating effects when effective. Although ransomware as a type of attack is still one of the biggest threats I believe that when using public networks, people who have their computers hacked and their personal information compromised is one of the biggest risks. Divisionally, businesses or households that have their networks compromised because IoT devices are wide open with regard to protection pose a major threat. TechNadu: The IoT industry is infamous for the poor safety of its products. Would you think that we need government-imposed laws to get things straight or will companies simply straighten out? While I’m not sure we need government-imposed legislation, I see the need for well-documented guidance on how to protect a well-built IoT system and the network it operates on. We’ve seen cases that have made the news like smart dolls hacked to gain access to home networks and hacked thermostats that are locked and held for ransom. IoT apps are usually always on and connected to the cloud at all times. IoT built-in safety is the only sure defense. However, vendors who produce new innovative products are not always aware of this and do not always know how to protect the IoT devices they create. Guidelines would be very helpful in ensuring that IoT vendors know what security protocols they need to include, and that consumers have a benchmark for protection for IoT devices they consider buying. TechNadu: Asking about which IoT devices do you have themselves? If yes, will you take steps to safeguard your data and your privacy? Heather Paunet: Yes I have various IoT devices in my house. I have speakers smart Tv’s multiple smart plugs and various virtual assistants. The steps I take to protect my own home network are very easy but very successful collectively. My home network is secured with our Virus Block Untangle Ng firewallNitish Singh0Read more.864
