Google Earth Now Provides A Chrome and Android User Measurement Tool ByNitish Singh-June 26 2018.049 Figure 1 Photo Courtesy of The Verge Google Earth now provides a mapping tool that allows Android and Chrome users to measure the distance between two geographic locations. The Measure feature resembles the Ar Measure feature of iOs 12 but is limited to Google Maps only. Google has also launched a standalone Measure Ar app for Android devices that can use your phone camera to measure everyday objects and spaces. Many Maps applications already had access to distance measurement features but using the Measure feature, Google Earth promises to deliver highly accurate results. Users are able to map infinite plot points and calculate the distance between any two points. The new update also includes measurements of area and perimeter. It’s a perfect way to measure how big or small public facilities are right from the Google Earth app, or even entire countries. .050 .050 Figure 2 Google Image Courtesy The new measurement feature utilizes Ar technology to quantify distances and areas. At Wwdc 2018, Apple recently launched the Measure App for iOs 12. Unlike Apple’s product that can calculate almost everything using Google Earth’s iOs Camera software, only geographic positions are measured. Google also released its standalone Measure Ar app for Android devices capable of measuring any everyday object or even the scale of indoor spaces. It is a handy tool that can be used for taking measurements when you do not have a measuring tape or scale. Google still has to release the Ar apps for iOs devices, as iOs 12 is still a few months away from the launch and will include the latest Ar Kit 2 to provide full Ar support for the application that is not yet available.
