Otero – Biography of Otero

On June 1, 1929, the soccer player Juan Ignacio Otero Cruceiro, better known in the world of soccer as Otero, was born in the city of A Coruña, in Spain. His demarcation was that of goalkeeper.

Otero was a great athlete and, before being a soccer goalkeeper, he excelled in various sports disciplines, such as swimming, of which he was champion of Galicia, as well as runner-up in Spain.

At the beginning of the 40s, the player changed sports, switching to soccer, being signed by the Liceo de Monelos club.

In 1946, he was signed by the Deportivo de La Coruña club, where he was in the youth categories.

In 1952, Deportivo de La Coruña decided to join the first team, replacing another legendary goalkeeper like Acuña.

After almost 10 seasons, and when the A Coruña club descended, Otero was transferred to Real Betis Balompié, where he spent 4 seasons.

In 1962, the player was signed by Granada CF, where he would also stay for 4 seasons, ending his career at this same club in 1966, when the player was 37 years old.

Years later Otero set up a marble workshop while taking time to train goalkeepers for teams such as RC Deportivo or Orillamar.

In Otero’s record there is 1 Teresa Herrera Trophy and, personally, a Zamora Trophy.
