Netflix Updates Privacy Statement

Netflix Updates Privacy Statement Discloses how user data is handledIn January 2018, Netflix released its updated Privacy Statement. The streaming service will store your personal information including specifics about payment methods and contact details. Additional demographic information is collected from online and offline distributors of the data. People are getting highly paranoid about their personal information in the wake of the recent Facebook scandal. No bigger streaming brand than Netflix is present when it comes to streaming services. The company has access to a massive repository of personal information with more than 118 million users distributed over 190 countries. Back in December 2017, Netflix had a divisive moment when the company’s Twitter account announced that 53 subscribers watched A Christmas Prince for 18 days every day. Many people who watched the tweet raised concerns about the privacy of their data and how the company handles information about users. Netflix has reaffirmed the service’s commitment to privacy after facing backlash. They stated that the tweet is representative of overall viewing trends and that the company does not go through individual data manually. Figure 1 Image Courtesy of ZDNet The company revealed its updated privacy statement in January that detailed its data collection policies. The streaming company collects three categories of data that include information you provide to Netflix information that they collect automatically, as well as data from your Web browser. Your name address email address telephone number payment method and your ratings on shows or movies make up the information that you actively provide to the service provider. Information Netflix manually collects login patterns to identify devices that you are logging in from your IP address watch history search queries that take time to view content and interactions with representatives of customer services. Once you sign in to your account on any web browser, Netflix gathers advertisement information and Web beacons about your web history cookies. The streaming service has confirmed that they collect this information to show users targeted advertisements. However, they do not use the data to provide any third-party advertising services and only Netflix servers contain your information. Netflix also stated that the service could supplement information collected from third-party sources, as described in the privacy statement. This could include Internet browsing patterns based on demographic data and interest-based data. While the language of the privacy statement relating to data collection by third parties is ambiguous, it is the standard for most online services. Platform Compatibility

While UltData is compatible with different platforms and Android versions, there is a big caveat – you need a rooted device to use all the options of UltData. Our Rating: 3/10. This program is designed to be used with Android smartphones and tablets as you can already say. Which means you must first install it on your device where Windows and MacOS are the supported platforms. With this said, it is obvious we have at least two channels here combined. You can either use a computer running Windows or MacOS that needs to connect to your Android smartphone. The table below will tell you which version of those platforms is supported. Windows MacOS High Sierra versions supported by the operating system 10.12/10.11/10.10 and earlier. Android 8.1/8/7/6 / And so on. Even some pretty old machines can run this program just fine, as you can see from above table. Same applies to devices running Android. You can have a smartphone or tablet running a massively outdated version of Android, and still be compliant with it. However once we began digging deeper into the documents of UltData we found something interesting. The chances are you’ll need an Android rooted device to unleash the full potential of Tenorshare UltData for Android. So let’s clarify this situation even if on the official Tech-Spec page you will read more.3/3.1479.jpg You need to connect your phone and allow the dev tools and debugging before you start using this program (along with third-party Google services). Our Rating: 7/10. Through choosing either its Windows or MacOS version, you can download Tenorshare UltData for Android from their official website. The installation file comes in at about 30 MB on Windows so it’s fairly lightweight. To start the process, download the software and double-click on its installation file. If you want to build shortcuts, choose where to mount the files and that is about it. If you have a quick Web link, it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes for the whole operation. “3/3.1480.jpg” You will be asked to install third-party Google services the first time you open UltData (needed to connect your smartphone or tablet to your computer). So confirm when you’re asked if you want to install these. Then connect your Android smartphone or tablet via a USB cable and this should be recognized instantly by the application. This is when you need to activate smartphone developer tools by going to the Settings app of your computer. UltData shows a helpful tutorial which will walk you one step at a time through the process. Since there are so many versions of Android out there, however, you may need to research on the Web to enable debugging tools based on the model name or number of your device. We have to say that Tenorshare has tried to make this whole thing much easier. Since it’s got to dig deep into your Android device, however, it needs access to its heart. That is why you need to enable tools and debugging for developers. Once again we’d like to see this clearly presented on Tenorshare’s website as this could be a message to Android phone owners who aren’t willing to allow any third-party app to have such complete and deep control over their computer.

“3/3.1482.jpg” Now we’ll show you how this application works by guiding you through the file extraction process from your Android device. So all of this begins with the home screen of the application where you need to pick which file types you want to recover. You can choose from the following categories where each file form can be chosen by hand: Contacts SMS Messages Call History WhatsApp Messages Audio Video Files. When you pick all the types of files that you want to download, Tenorshare UltData will start scanning your Android device. If it is not rooted you will see a message of error stopping the application from doing anything further. This is where you will be guided to Kingo Root, another device. This tool has the aim of rooting your Android device. However, once again we have to emphasize that rooting your device should not be taken lightly. This is a serious effort and you only need to do it if you are 100 percent sure you know what you’re doing. “3/3.1483.jpg” All in all we can see is that UltData is quite user-friendly – if you have a rooted device! You will only be able to retrieve your photos and videos if you do not want to root your device. In this case our strong recommendation would be to use any of the services that do this automatically (and that come free by the way), such as Google Photos or any cloud syncing service. Only make sure that these backup devices are set-up on time before anything happens to your computer.

Subscription Length Limitations Cost 1 month$69.95 We can see that the price difference between Windows and MacOS is drastic. Interestingly enough these two versions come with the same set of features that really raises a question as to why somebody would create such confusing pricing plans? The bottom line is that Tenorshare UltData is looking like an overpriced product for Android. Yes it’s true that it can sometimes be beneficial – but note there are so many Android recovery solutions out there. Many of these also come for free (while taking care of certain types of files such as images of documents or videos) and can be as useful as this one.

Do we suggest UltData for Android on Tenorshare? “3/3.1487.jpg” In fact Tenorshare UltData for Android can sometimes be a life-saver. It applies however only to those who are able to root their Android devices. Since this is not an option for most people, it’s better to look for alternative methods that you can use to back up and restore your data without canceling your guarantee. PROS: Simple to install Seems relatively stable (for rooted devices). CONS: Dishonest marketing Needs rooting Semi-helpful, overpriced service. OUR SCORE: 4.7 From 10!
