The Canadian singer was born to Scott Alexander Young and Edna Blow Ragland Rassy Young on 12 November 1945 in Toronto Ontario, Canada. While his father was a sportswriter journalist, and his mother was a member of the American Revolution Daughters, a fiction writer. He had been brought up alongside Robert Bob Young, his uncle. His family later moved to Florida where he spent a very short time at the Chisolm Elementary School. We went back to Canada before long. His parents had terminated their marriage by the time he was 12, and he moved with his mother while his brother stayed with his family. He fell in love with the arts like most other music greats since he was a child.

He then formed Crazy Horse for his next albumEverybody Knows This Is Nowherein 1969, together with Danny Whitten Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina. That same year, having teamed up with David Crosby Stephen Stills and Graham Nash, he formed his next group, Crosby Stills Nash and Young.
