Users can also offer an approved battery replacement for a charge even though a third-party battery has been previously installed. Only two months after Apple shut down its $29 battery replacement plan, the change to the warranty policies comes. Following the policy change, Apple will not uphold product warranty if third party batteries harm other components of iPhones. However, an exception has been made when installing third-party batteries to accommodate damage done to battery tabs. Also, Genius Bar and Aasp technicians have been advised to substitute third-party batteries with genuine Apple batteries if necessary or if the iPhone owners ask. The user will have to bear the cost of the replacement and will not be covered under warranty. Apple has been charged with throttling performance user-friendly battery replacement program. The software has allowed users to get the $79 replacement battery for just $29. In addition, a Right to Repair Act may be introduced in the Us which could require manufacturers to repair devices without any penalties. Apple and other manufacturers have voiced opposition to the Act as it could cause consumers to be reckless with their devices and expect free repairs. But on the other hand, anti-consumer practices that require users to pay a heavy amount for minor repairs could also be avoided.
