On June 3, 1901, the actor Maurice Evans was born in the city of Dorchester (Dorset), in England.
Maurice’s acting career began in 1926, when he began to perform Shakespearean plays.
In the 1930s, he joined the Old Vic company, where he continued to perform different theatrical works and gain great recognition from the specialized press.
In 1936, he set foot on the Broadway stages for the first time, where he played the role of Romeo, along with actress Katherine Cornell. Later came other highly successful works such as “Hamlet” or “Richard II”.
During the 1940s, Maurice continued to play roles on the stage, playing characters from the playwrights George Bernard Shaw or Charles Dickens.
After the Second World War, and well into the 1950s, he produced various shows on Broadway.
In the 60s, the actor played some television roles, such as in “Bewitched”, where he played the father of Elizabeth Montgomery. He also plays the villain Puzzler, in the Batman series.
In 1968, he appeared in the film The Devil’s Seed, along with Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes, in which he played the character of Edward Hutchins.
Maurice, during the 70s, participated in feature films such as Planet of the Apes, along with Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowall and in which he played Dr. Zaius, or Return to the Planet of the Apes, along with James Franciscus and where plays the same character.
On March 12, 1989, the actor died in Rottingdean, England, as a result of an infection in the bronchi, although some sources cite his death as due to cancer.
