Marc Jacobs – Biography of Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs was born on April 9, 1963 in New York City. From a very young age he knew that what he most wanted to do was dedicate himself to fashion and when he was old enough and could do it, he enrolled in the Higher School of Art and Design and, later he wanted to perfect his studies in Parsons School, a prestigious New York design school.

Before graduating in 1984 and having won several awards, he sold his first knitwear collection and that same year he founded his first fashion business, with whom until today he is his partner, his great friend. Robert Duffy.

Two years later he would launch his first collection under the name of Marc jacobs, with the support of Kashiyama USA Inc. By 1987, he was the youngest designer ever to receive the award. Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion talent of American Council of Fashion Designers.

In 1989 together with Robert Duffy they join the company Ellis to take charge of the feminine line, but in 1992 Marc lost his position, when he created the grunge-inspired collection, becoming a great controversy.

He turned 31 and presented his first collection ready-to-wear in New York, creating again a great amazement when great models such as Naomi Campbell or Linda Evangelista appeared on the catwalk without charging, supporting the designer.

For 1995 he presented his first men’s collection and in 1997 it was appointed artistic director of the house Louis vuitton. He has made great achievements and I collaborate with Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami, he modernized the brand a lot and knew how to adapt it to the new millennium.

Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc. launched in 1993, Marc Jacobs International Company, LP and twelve months later, it signed its first international agreement with Renown Look, Inc Y Mitsubishi Corp, marketing the brand in Japan.

It would also have an agreement with the Italian brand Iris SRL. ensuring the production of the brand’s women’s and men’s footwear.

His first Marc Jacobs store opened in 1997 at 1633 Mercer Street in New York’s Soho.

His second boutique was able to open in 2000 in San Francisco and at the same time, Jacobs launched his first line of bags. By 2001 the second line of the brand was created, Marc by Marc Jacobs, with prices for all audiences.

Marc kept taking risks and that same year he decided to release his first fragrance Marc Jacobs Perfume for women and a year later, the version for men came out.

His small home textile line came out in 2001 and in 2005 thanks to an agreement he signed with the Safilo SPA Company was able to open the first eyewear collection.

Already more established and well known, Jacobs opens his store in Paris and after making a deal with Fossil Inc. its first line of watches appears.

Today his stores are all over the world and his company sells a large number of products such as shoes, bags, perfumes and glasses, under the names Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Stinky Rat I Little Marc for children.
