The actress María Guerrero was born on April 17, 1867 in Madrid.

She is one of the most emblematic and prestigious actresses in the history of our theater.

After completing his studies, at 18 years old, he began to study acting, receiving classes from prestigious actors, such as the actress Teodora Lamadrid.

The same year that he began his studies in dramatic art, 1885, he made his debut at the Teatro de la Comedia in the capital of Spain. It was with the play “Sin familia”.

The actress continued to play roles until, at only 23 years old, she managed to become the leading actress at the Spanish Theater, where she played numerous classics.

At this point, María decided to expand her training, because she moved to the city of Paris, where she received classes from Benoît-Constant Coquelin, one of the most prestigious actors and directors of the time.

Back in Spain, he created, in 1894, his own company. But after 2 years he created a new one together with Fernando Díaz de Mendoza, a company that became one of the most prestigious in our country, which includes many actors and actresses whose names have gone down in the history of our theater, such as Fernanda Ladrón de Guevara, Luis Medrano, Catalina Bárcena and many more.

The actress toured extensively, performing at the Manhattan Opera House in New York, and premiered works by prestigious writers, including Nobel Laureates José de Echegaray and Jacinto Benavente.

Of the awards and recognitions achieved by the actress, the Grand Cross of Alfonso XII and the appointment as Favorite Daughter of Madrid stand out.

The actress has left behind actors such as Fernando Fernán Gómez, of whom she was a paternal grandmother. It was also for the actresses Mari Carmen Díaz de Mendoza and Carmen Larrabeiti.

María Guerrero died on January 23, 1928, when she was about to premiere the play “Doña Diabla” by Luis Fernández Ardavín.
