Besides being a supermodel and part of the famous Kardashian clan, Kendall jenner decided to venture into her role as a businesswoman and launched her own brand of Tequila. And as expected, the event gave a lot to talk about on social networks, where it had both supporters and detractors.
“For almost four years I was on a journey to create the best tasting tequila. After dozens of blind tastings, visits to our distillery and anonymous participation in competitions to win, we have finally done it.“The model said days ago through her Instagram account, with the posting of a video where she can be seen tasting the product, called 818, which has a white drink version and a golden one, as can be seen in the second image , a third that shows the awards that the drink obtained, another video where she is seen carrying a bottle and two more photos of the product.
After this publication, which obtained more than 50 thousand comments, there were many congratulations but there were also those who were against Jenner’s business, who was accused of cultural appropriation for profiting from the most representative drink in Mexico, and also for the high value who will sell it in the market: “Something about Kendall’s tequila annoys me, and it’s the idea of white celebrities profiting from Mexican artisans and profiting from our traditions, when they only visit Cabo and Puerto Vallarta as vacation spots.“Said a user on Twitter about it.
For its part, Ramón González Figueroa, director of the Tequila Regulatory Council, assures that Jenner’s business has nothing to do with cultural appropriation: “His brand was linked to the tequila industry in Mexico and respects the designation of origin, ‘Tequila’. We consider that cultural appropriation is when you imitate a product from a region and you do not link correctly with the industry that produces it, that is, you do not have authorization to do so.”, He said about it.
For his part, the specialized lawyer Roberto Arochi noted that as long as the model’s tequila is produced under the regulation of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, she can market it: “If she is prevented from doing so, she would be discriminated against for the simple fact of being a foreigner. The origin of the capital is not an impediment to having a brand of tequila“, he claimed.
