Keane is an English musical group, whose style is alternative rock. It was formed in the city of Battle, in 1995.
The creator was Rice-Oxley, who decided to form the band, doing it with musicians Dominic Scott and Hughes. The group began by covering songs from groups like Oasis or U-2.
In 1997 they decided that they needed a singer who had a suitable voice for the style of the group, becoming part of Tom Chaplin himself.
In 1998 they began to present several of their songs in different pubs, with great success, especially the song “Hope and Anchor”, releasing, already in 1999, their first single, in CD format, entitled “Call Me What You Like”, the which was sold during the same performances they performed.
After a year they released their second single, also on CD, “Wolf At The Door”, currently considered a collector’s item, having come to pay high amounts for a copy of it.
Despite this, at that time it cannot be said that the group was having great success, which caused one of its members, Scott, to leave it in order to continue his university studies.
In 2001 they released some songs like “This Is The Last Time” and “Bedshaped”, which they recorded in France. And in 2002 they dedicated themselves to giving concerts throughout England, having the luck that Simon Williams, an executive of the Fierce Panda Records, heard them in one of them, thanks to which they were able to record in the studios of said record company, releasing the single “Everybody’s Changing”, which was to reach number 1 on BBC radio.
The group’s first album came out in 2004, and it was called “Hopes And Fears.” It was a great success, and it quickly managed to reach number 1 in the United Kingdom, winning a large number of awards and nominations, including the Onda Award from Spain.
After this, they opened for a tour with the band U2, which allowed them to break into the United States market.
In 2006 they released the album “Under de iron sea”, very well received by the public both in Europe and in the United States, to the point that it has sold 2.7 million units.
In 2007, after touring several countries, they released the album “Perfect Symmetry”, which also managed to be number 1 in several countries, including the United States, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
After that, a new member, musician Jesse Quin, joined the band.
In May 2007 Keane has released his new album “Strangeland”.
