Next, we’ll tell you where Kaspersky comes from what it means for regular users, and whether there are any previous incidents that should challenge this VPN’s validity.

As far as Kaspersky’s VPN solution is concerned we can not say that any data breaches have been detected in the past. Nevertheless we need to look at this company as a whole. You will find plenty of interesting information online by checking out some background information on Kaspersky. Back in 2016, the US government banned KasperskyUnited KingdomDutch governmentstole data from a piece published by Kaspersky Lab serversMotherboard. We believe that saying that using the Kaspersky Secure Connection VPN can be a very troubling decision, is safe. There is no direct evidence that Kaspersky is harnessing its users. This does not, however, mean that there is no cause for concern. Kaspersky Secure Communication only supports 4 platforms.

“2/2.505.jpg” You can not mount this VPN on the streaming devices of a router network, and on many other platforms. Our Rating: 3/10. Ideally you want a VPN that can be used across all of your devices – at home as well as on the go. Let’s see if Secure Connection is the right pick for Kaspersky. Compatibility with MacOS Windows Platform. Mobile IOS Android Platforms. N / A Web Browsers. S / A. Other Appliances N / A. As you can see from the table above, Kaspersky’s VPN solution only supports four platforms. You will find native Apps for Windows and MacOS when it comes to desktop systems. As you can see, Linux is missing here and we are disappointed to say there isn’t even a manual configuration option available. Kaspersky supports Android and iOS in terms of the mobile operating systems. These are fully featured VPN applications which can be installed natively. And that’s pretty much it – even via manual configuration no other devices are supported. Finally let’s not forget to mention that you can use this VPN simultaneously on up to 5 devices. This seems generous enough to allow you to safeguard all your personal devices.

Installation

“2/2.506.jpg” Prominent features

“2/2.508.jpg” Kaspersky Secure Connection is an essential VPN service. It falls short in almost every way compared to other VPNs especially top-rated ones. Our Rating: 3/10. Now we’ll look at some of the most prominent features Kaspersky Secure Connection brings with it. This includes basic as well as advanced features so this is what you can expect. DNS Leak Protection YES IPv6 Leak Protection NO Kill-Switch Ad-Blocker Anti-Malware NO Unlimited Server Switches YES Unlimited Bandwidth Unlimited Data YES Usually use DNS as well as IPv6 leak protection in terms of protecting your identity. However, along with IPv4 leak protection Kaspersky has decided to offer a DNS leak protection. As with other information about this VPN, we really had to dig to find out if IPv6 or IPv4 was supported. There seems to be general confusion about this among Kaspersky Secure Connection users who are led to believe that they are getting IPv6 – which obviously doesn’t work because instead it degrades to IPv4. Surprisingly, even the weakest VPNs out there do not have a kill-switch which is something we see built-in. This means that if you get disconnected from a secure server for any reason, your true information might be revealed to third parties. With this said, while using this VPN we do not recommend downloading torrents or large files. There are also none of the more advanced features, like anti-malware ad-blocking and split-tunneling. The fact is that some of the free Kaspersky software will minimize these missed points but that only adds to the overall difficulty because multiple individual programs need to be installed. Finally, realizing that you are getting unlimited bandwidth server switches and info, is also nice. With every said so far we conclude that Kaspersky Secure Connection is without much to offer a very basic VPN solution. Server Count

“2/2.509.jpg” Kaspersky Secure Connection is truly disappointed with only 18 secure servers on sale. It will leave even the most basic users wanting for more. Our Rating: 1/10. We are pleased that you are reading this review because it is nearly impossible to find any type of information on Kaspersky’s website. It refers in particular to its server count which is a well kept secret.Specific Cities Selection NO Unlimited switching YES After talking to the customer support team at the company we were told that Kaspersky Secure Connection is powered by 18 secure servers in 18 countries. And as we began using the software ourselves we saw that connection to individual cities or locations was impossible. This means you can select only one country and Kaspersky will automatically connect to a server located in that country. That is to say, there is not much to choose from here. So far, we have encountered several VPNs offering between 30 and 50 servers (and we’ve tested dozens of different options). It looks as though Kaspersky Secure Connection is the VPN with the smallest count of servers yet. With only 18 countries on board and giving you access to only 18 servers, Kaspersky is really disappointed in this respect without having the ability to choose from different locations.

Ease of use

“2/2.510.jpg” Upon starting Kaspersky Secure Connection you will see a beautifully designed and intuitive user interface. There is an ON / OFF switch which will connect you to the nearest server upon initial launch of the application. However you can also manually select a server at the bottom of the screen as you can expect. You will not get to select an individual location or city as noted earlier. Instead you choose a country. Unlike other VPNs, Kaspersky does not allow you to create custom favorite lists, and does not allow any kind of fine tuning. Click on a country instead and you will return to home screen. Flip the ON / OFF switch and after a few seconds you will be logged in to the selected server. “2/2.511.jpg” You will see the following message in the bottom-left portion of the home screen: ‘ Powered by Hotspot Shield. ‘ You may be surprised to know this, but Kaspersky actually uses the infrastructure built and offered by Hotspot Shield VPN. If you click on the link provided, you will read our newly updated review of the VPN in question where you will learn about its many downsides. Perhaps the most problematic issue from the past is the possible logging of data and numerous accusations relating to privacy. Because Hotspot Shield is far from being a ‘ no logs ‘ VPN, we do not think Kaspersky Secure Connection is too far away either. “2/2.512.jpg” “2/2.513.jpg” As you can see from Kaspersky screenshot comes with a very simple setup panel. You can choose to run the application at computer startup, and you can connect to a secure network automatically. You can then instruct the VPN how to behave when connecting to different Wi-Fi networks so you can protect your device automatically when connecting to public Wi-Fi hotspots. You can then decide to opt in / out of the Kaspersky Security Network that sends back a bunch of data to the company behind this software for review. “2/2.514.jpg” It’s clear once again that Kaspersky Secure Connection is a thoroughly basic VPN – where you won’t find a single advanced feature. It is fully automated and will not let you tinker with anything. You can’t even choose from various VPN protocols so you need to trust the VPN to select the best possible configuration that will not dramatically affect your Web link. With this said advanced users are far from happy with this VPN service.

“2/2.515.jpg” This VPN can not unblock any of the popular streaming media services worldwide. It supports P2P but copyrighted files must be kept away. Our Rating: Score 2/10. It’s now time to check whether Kaspersky Secure Connection can unblock Netflix Hulu and other popular streaming media services. See the table below for a look. Media Streaming Torrenting Support NO Torrenting (P2P) YES Unfortunately this VPN isn’t your choice if streaming media is important to you. That’s because Netflix Hulu BBC iPlayer can not be unblocked, nor Amazon Prime Video can. Each of these websites can detect the presence of this VPN which means your access is blocked. When it comes to torrenting Kaspersky Secure Connection it says it allows traffic with P2P. However in their legal documents they keep mentioning that you should respect the laws of your home country. And since infringement of copyright is a serious issue around the world this means you only have to stick to legal torrents. Unless you do that, Kaspersky is willing to cooperate with government agencies around the world so be careful what kinds of files you download to. Security Privacy

“2/2.516.jpg” Kaspersky Secure Connection uses a somewhat unknown VPN protocol and collects a wealth of hardware and software information. Our Rating: 3/10. We all know what the primary purpose of any VPN is – to protect your online identity and to hide third-party web traffic. VPNs use a wide variety of encryption levels and VPN protocols to do so. So here’s what this VPN’s to expect. Supported Encryption Protocols

Kaspersky doesn’t even attempt to advertise its software relevant to privacy. You have to be quite determined to find information about its encryption and VPN protocols on their official website. And this is the reason why online reviews would consider polarizing facts about this VPN. Since it uses the Hotspot Shield network Kaspersky Secure Communication uses encryption with AES-256. Fortunately this is the strongest kind of commercially available encryption available. Even if someone steals your data it would take a long time to get your data readable. And you can count on Hydra VPN protocol as regards VPN protocols. This is a rarely used protocol that we can only hope has been tested appropriately. And since you can’t find OpenVPN here this is the reason you can use Kaspersky VPN on your router.

On the company’s official website, ‘ Kaspersky Secure Connection will not log what you are doing online and will not keep any records. ‘ Of course, we took a close look at its Privacy Policy to see if that claim is true. “2/2.517.jpg” Figure 1 Kaspersky will keep track of your use of VPNs. As it turns out Kaspersky Secure Connection collects plenty of ‘ anonymised ‘ data as soon as this application is launched. This is done according to the legal documents to ‘ discover new and hard-to-detect threats to information security and their sources. ‘ So here’s what information you’re going to provide: information about your use of the VPN: geographic location of the VPN server, starting a VPN session ID and starting a user session ID (in seconds) information about the volume of inbound and outbound traffic (in bytes) information about the hardware and software of your device: OS model name ID firmware v It is safe to say you’re giving this company access to every aspect of your device by using Kaspersky Secure Connection. Kaspersky can analyze your device thoroughly, and what you are doing online. And even if this information is anonymised, the use of this VPN would not make us feel safe.

Check with DNS LeakOn average, Kaspersky slowed us down 35.9 per cent. You can however expect your result to vary depending on the server you pick. Our Rating: 6/10. You should generally expect VPNs to slow down your Internet link a little bit. The best VPNs out there, however, can make that barely noticeable. We’ve done a round of speed tests to see what to expect from Kaspersky. “2/2.520.jpg” Figure 2 Our stats on baseline. We first test the speed of our ‘ naked ‘ Web connection. This means that the VPN will be disabled, so that we can set up some basic data. And we got 147.50 Mbps for downloads and 9.61 Mbps for uploads as you can see. Now it’s time to power and see how the speed changes on this VPN service. Figure 3 A nearby Kaspersky VPN server performs. We allowed Kaspersky to connect us to the server closest to him. We’ve had several options since we’re located in Europe and got connected to a server in Ireland. We got 43.19 Mbps for downloads this time around, and 6.99 Mbps for uploads. This is a tremendous loss in speed and we were expecting a much better result for a nearby server. “2/2.522.jpg” Figure 4 Remote Kaspersky VPN server performance; Then we connected to a US server and were running another speed test. We got 145.78 Mbps for downloads and 6.26 Mbps for uploads, surprisingly. As you can see the download speed is close to the speed of your ‘ naked ‘ web connection to make this happen to Kaspersky. Upload Speed Speed Reduction Baseline Speed 147.50 Mbps 9.61 Mbps Nearby Server 43.19 Mbps 6.99 Mbps 70.7% Remote Server 6.26 Mbps 1.2% This VPN has slowed down by 35.9% on average. All in all, it’s a pretty good result somewhat above average. The performance varies greatly between nearby and remote servers, though we didn’t like that.

Customer Support Tickets: And finally you can open a ticket for customer support by logging into your account on the official website. It can take 48 hours to get an answer again. Kaspersky knows how to offer support as stated earlier. Just make sure you prepare your steps carefully or you may get lost in the various available resources.

Pricing

Kaspersky’s VPN service seems overpriced given all that it provides (and all that it does not offer). Our Rating: 5/10. Kaspersky Safe Connection comes with two planes to register. You can opt to pay monthly or annually so let’s check the prices out. Total price per month Savings $4.99 $4.99 0 percent 12 months $29.99 50 percent As you can see the monthly plan for Kaspersky is priced at $4.99 per month. Considering all we’ve said so far we think this VPN is overpriced. The situation will of course change once you consider its long-term plan. By getting its 12-month plan, you can save 50 per cent when you sign up for Kaspersky Secure Connection. This way you pay $29.99 for every 12 months. Considering that this only amounts to $2.49 it now sounds like a better deal. Naturally this applies to those who don’t want to unblock streaming media websites and download torrents. So we are talking about average users of the home. Finally you should know that Kaspersky accepts a number of regular methods of payment including credit cards and PayPal. Unfortunately you can’t afford Bitcoin. And there’s also a guaranteed 30-day money back.

“2/2.525.jpg” We can’t recommend this VPN unless you are an average home user who is not overly concerned about your privacy. It comes simply with too many downsides which beat its primary purpose. With this said we’re sure you’ll find plenty of far better alternatives out there some of which are even more affordable than this VPN. PROS: Simple to use Above-average Fully automated speeds. CONS: Collects a lot of data Incredibly small server network Very basic functionality Can’t unblock media streaming websites Complicated system of overpriced customer support.Server Count1 Ease of Use5 Media Streaming Torrenting Support2 Security Privacy3 Speed Performance6 Pricing5 SUMMARY Kaspersky Secure Connection is one of the least capable VPNs we’ve come across yet. This VPN can not take care of your personal data properly, and can be quite restrictive to how you use the Web. With this said we recommend avoiding this VPN service and looking for alternatives. 3.5 OVERAL SCORE How to set Up User Profiles in Kodi 18 in 2019
