The musician of Spanish origin named Julio José Iglesias de la Cueva, was born on September 23, 1943 in the beautiful city of Madrid.
In his past, he is a professional soccer player for Real Madrid, and at the same time he is studying law at university. Until he is in a bind and has to abandon his sports career at the age of nineteen, due to a serious car accident that nearly cost him his life.
Because of the accident, he is semi paralyzed for a year and a half and, at that time, they give him a guitar, with which he understands perfectly from the beginning and with it he begins to compose.
Surprisingly, in 1968 he won the Benidorm International Song Festival with the theme “Life goes on the same”, which he composed during his convalescence. Julio signs a contract with the Latin section of Columbia Records, Discos Columbia.
It is in 1970 that Iglesias represents Spain in the “Eurovision Song Contest”, achieving fourth place with the song “Gwendolyne”, his first recording leads nonstop to stardom in Europe.
A year later, he married Isabel Preysler, with whom he had three children named Chabeli Iglesias, Enrique Iglesias and Julio José Iglesias; but having to go through harsh crisis, he ended up separating in 1975. And in this same year he recorded the song “Anatamo Uramo” in Japanese, with which he obtained very good reviews.
Upon arrival in 1978, Julio signed a contract with CBS International, encouraging himself to add languages such as English, French, Portuguese, German and Italian, giving another color to his repertoire.
“Hey!” It arrived at the beginning of the decade of the ’80s, and reached a very important figure in sales for a Spanish-language album.
In 1983 he received the diamond disc for having sold more than one hundred million records worldwide and the following year they put a star on the Hollywood walk of Fame.
Arriving in 1985, Julio released his first album in English “1100 Bel Air Place”, which included the songs “To all the girls”, “I’ve loved before”, sung as a duet with Willie Nelson and “All of you” , also sung as a duet with Diana Ross. In this same year, his father was kidnapped by “ETA” but after twenty agonizing days, the police released Dr. Iglesias, this fact caused Julio, who was already divorced from Isabel Preysler, to move with his family to Miami, where they settled in a mansion in Miami Beach.
Subsequently, the musician already positioned at the top of fame, recognized for each and every one of his successes, receives a Grammy Award for “Best Latin Pop Album” at the 1988 Grammy Awards, which belonged to the album titled “A Man Alone.” In this unforgettable year, Iglesias records a duet with Stevie Wonder on “My Love” from his 1988 album “Non Stop”.
This incredible musician has behind him more than 75 albums, a Grammy Award for “Best Latin Singer”, the “International Monaco Award”, the prestigious “ASCAP Pied Piper” award, and more than 260 million records sold.
