Born in Spring Valley (near New York City), she is the youngest of three daughters of Francesca, a former American Ballet dancer, and Paul margoulies, advertising creative. Her parents are Jewish, although her mother converted to Catholicism when Julianna was 5 years old.
Before starting high school in New Hampshire, he lived with his family for several years in Paris and England.
He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Sarah Lawrence College Arts, where he also performed many of the institute’s works. He also studied with James Price at the Acting Studio in New York for a time after college.
Before his first performance in “Seeking justice“(1991) (where she played a prostitute, Julianna worked as a waitress. It took her more than a year to get her next role; during that period, she worked on regional theatrical productions and television commercials.
In 1994 he got one of the leading roles in the television series “Emergencies (ER)“, she had previously appeared as a guest on other television series (“Law & Order“,”Murder, She Wrote“, “Philly Heat”, “Homicide: Life on the Street“).
The character played by Julianna was going to die, after a suicide attempt due to the break in his relationship with the character played by George Clooney; but after the positive response from the audience, the plot was modified and Julianna continued to play the nurse Carol hathaway during six years.
After his last season in “Emergencies (ER)“They offered her 27 million dollars to continue in the series, she turned them down to go to New York and perform in theater. She is the only member of the cast to have received an award. Emmy (after being nominated in each of the years she participated), she also received an award from the Screen Actors Guild, in 1998 and 1999, for her performance.

The following year he worked alongside RenĂ©e zellweger on “A Price Above Rubies“; and with Matthew McConaughey Y Ethan hawke on “The Newton Boys“.
Already in the new millennium it could be seen in productions such as “Evelyn“(2002) together with Pierce brosnan; “Slingshot“(2005), with David arquette Y Thora Birch; “The Darwin Awards“(2006), an adventure comedy also with David arquette; the thriller “Snakes on a Plane“(2006), with Samuel L. Jackson; Y “Beautiful Ohio“(2006), together with William hurt Y Rita Wilson.
Most recently he participated in 4 episodes of the famous HBO series “The Sopranos“and had the leading role in the series “Canterbury’s Law“of which 6 episodes were broadcast until April 2008.
He was also part of the cast of the comedy “City Island“whose premiere is scheduled for 2009. They also participate in it Emily Mortimer, Andy Garcia Y Alan Arkin among others.
In his personal life, Julianna marriage with Keith lieberthal, in November 2007. Their first child was born the following year.
He had previously been dating the actor Ron Eldaard, from whom he parted ways in 2003.
