Actor José María Prada was born on March 31, 1925 in the town of Ocaña, in the province of Toledo. He was also a voice actor.
After finishing his secondary studies, he decided to study Medicine, and, at the University, he contacted the Spanish University Theater. This makes him discover his vocation for interpretation, which is why he abandons medicine.
He managed to enter the Spanish Theater Company, later doing it in another also very prestigious, the María Guerrero Company. José María then begins to interpret a large number of works, among which we will highlight as an example some such as “Tartufo”, “The Taming of the Shrew”, “The cherry garden”, “Thousands of clowns”, “The dream of reason ”or“ The eyesore ”.
It did not take long for him to make his film debut, and he did so in 1954 by no less than Juan Antonio Bardem, in his film “Comedians.” From there, he continued working in the cinema, doing so with some of the most prestigious directors in our country, such as Luis García Berlanga in “El verdugo”, Miguel Picazo in “La tía Tula”, or Carlos Saura in “La hunt” and “Ana and the wolves.”
He also worked a lot on the small screen, a medium through which he was well known. It began in the 60s, participating in a large number of plays that were televised within programs such as “Estudio 1”, “Gran Teatro”, “Novela”, “Primera fila” or many others. they were broadcast at that time and they were about theater.
He also participated in other programs, such as the series “Pili, ideal secretary”, or “Landscapes with figures.”
As for his work in the field of dubbing, he has voiced actors such as Tony Curtis and Dennis Hopper.
Among the awards that the actor won, we can highlight the CEC Award for the best supporting actor for his role in “La tía Tula”, or the Sant Jordi Award for the best interpreter for his work in the film “La Cante”. He also has to his credit a Fotogramas de Plata for the best television actor, among others.
José María Prada died on August 13, 1978 in the city of Bilbao.
