Bio

As a young boy, Malone, who was the youngest of nine children, had to contribute to the farm work without any schooling or extracurricular activity. He attended Summerfield High School where he was a standout in their basketball team leading them from 1979 to 1981 to three consecutive championships. Malone’s talent drew attention from a number of colleges but for a lot of them his grades proved to be a challenge. Schools like Arkansas University didn’t mind but Malone chose to stay close to home so he enrolled at the University of Louisiana Tech that didn’t have a famous basketball program. Malone did not play college basketball in his freshman year as he focused on his grades. He first joined the team as a sophomore after winning eligibility in his second year, and posted 18.7 points and 9.3 rebounds. In all of his three college basketball years, Malone earned an All-Southland selection, as well as a NABC All-American second-team selection for his senior year. Upon graduation Karl Malone was drafted by the Utah Jazz in the 1985 NBA Draft with the 13th overall pick. He averaged 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds in his rookie year to make the NBA All-Rookie Team and third place on the voting list for Rookie of the Year. By 1988 Malone had grown into a very dominant player with an average of 27.7 points per game to win his first of fourteen All-Star appearances and first of 14 All-NBA picks. Karl Malone spent 19 professional seasons in total; 18 with Utah and 1 with the Lakers in Los Angeles before calling time on his career. He played the fourth most of a total of 1476 regular season NBA games by any player in history with an average of 25.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per play. He showed up 193 times in the playoffs averaging 24.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.
